When the cds are loaded in the changer, the machine will not recognize them. it just shifts from one to the next like they are not there.

If you can't put it back then the laser unit is no good anyway so it may be worth a try. I would not recomend super glue because it outgasses a substance that may cloud the lens. (that is how they use super glue to get finger prints from objects) Maybe use a thin film (very thin film) of rubber cement very carefully applied to the edge of the lens would do the trick. You must act fast because rubber cement cures so very fast. Another possible glue would be epoxy. It would give you a little more time before it starts to set up. Be sure you have the correct side up when you attach the lens, and be SURE that it is well seated in its socket so that you don't screw up the focus of the laser. Do a dry run or two with no glue to get the feel of what it takes. Don't forget to clean the "inside" side of the lens before you glue it in. You can clean the outside once it is glued in place. If all else fails you still are in a situation where you have to change out the laser assembly. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Good luck.

pioneer cd players have the common problem of losing their laser lens
due to the glue that holds it in place going brittle over time. try
shaking the player from side to side and upside down to see if you can
hear the lens rattling about. if you recover the lens, very carefully
slot it back in place and apply a tiny drop of glue (NOT SUPERGLUE) to
the outside edge of the lens taking care not to get any on the focus
area and leave to dry. all should be well after this. i find UHU GLUE
in the yellow tubes do a lasting fix but don't use SUPERGLUE as the
fumes will coat the lens.
hope this helps?

With the top off the unit, you can turn the tray gears manually for slow eject function. Unplug unit before touching anything inside, check internal fuses.
Sometimes the little ball bearings that keep the cart trays separated come out causing tray jams and shorts.
Make sure your tray retracts all the way into the player flush with the face plate when loading, gently push it in while retracting for those occasional no-read situations. (Also for Denon that takes these same carts). Also note that the CDs go in the Upside Down position.
