Question about Hotpoint RGB745 Gas Kitchen Range

Oven temperature adjustment

I am trying to adjust the temperature in my hotpoint electric range. It currently heats too hot.....for example, when set at 200F it heats up to 319F before kicking off. In other ovens, I have adjusted the temperature by turning a screw located inside the oven, but I can't find the adjustment screw in this oven. Any ideas?

Don't know model - range temperature feels too low, even though it says 350 (for example) on the thermostat and with the mercury thermometer that I bought to verify. Baked items (cookies, cakes) don't get cooked on the inside, so I leave them in the oven much longer (sometimes 30-45 mins) until they test done inside w/ fork. Outside is dry as a bone and crumbly. Oven temperature hasn't been right since I bought this range in 2005. I bought this model and manufacturer on good report for few service calls from Consumer Guide. I am not hapy with it.

I have a hotpoint rb757oj6wh range that heats too hot..How do you adjust the oven?

  • hightmichael Mar 31, 2009

My Hotpoint oven (Even after replacing the bottom and top element) still doesn't work right. Like the person before the top of what your baking gets dry and the inside is undercooked. I have tried to set the temp using the knob on the oven, even replacing the thermostat, but nothing works. I'm at a loss

Well no need to fret, if you oven is heating over 100 degress off theres problably not an adjusatment to compensate for that, youll need to either replace the htermostat or the thermistor, depending on which your machin uses

How to adjust oven controll to the right temp.

You may find that your new oven cooks differently than the one it replaced. Use your new oven for a few weeks to
become more familiar with it. If you still think your new oven is too hot or too cold, you can adjust the thermostat yourself.
Do not use thermometers, such as those found in grocery stores, to check the temperature setting of your oven.
These thermometers may vary 20-40 degrees.
NOTE: This adjustment will not affect the broiling or the self-cleaning temperatures. The adjustment will be retained
in memory after a power failure.
Adjust the oven thermostat-Do it yourself!
To Adjust the Thermostat
Touch the BAKEand BROIL HI/LOpads
at the same time for 2 seconds until
the display shows SF.
Touch the BAKEpad. A two digit
number shows in the display.
The oven temperature can be adjusted
up to (+) 35°F hotter or (-) 35°F
cooler. Touch the + pad to increase the
temperature in 1 degree increments.
Touch the - pad to decrease the
temperature in 1 degree increments.
When you have made the adjustment,
touch the START/ON pad to go back to
the time of day display. Use your oven
as you would normally.

Oven is off 100 degrees. How to calibrate it?

To Adjust the Thermostat

Pull the OVEN TEMP knob off the shaft. look at the back of the knob and note the current setting before making any adjustment. The knob is factory set wit the knob directly under the pointer.

1. Pull of the OVEN TEMP knob

2. Loosen both screws on back of the knob

3. Adjust lower screw so it moves in the desired direction. You will hear and feel the notches as you turn the knob. Each notch changes the temperature about 10 degrees F.

4. Tighten the screws.

5. Return the OVEN TEMP knob to the oven.

Re-check oven performance and make the necessary adjustments accordingly.

The actual temperature (as measured by repairman's device) is 20 to 30 degrees lower than indicated on the control panel. Should the control panel be replaced in a 7 year old range or should the range be...

You can adjust the bake average temp +/- 35 degrees this is called calibration.
Here's How:
To Adjust: 1. Press the BAKE pad (upper or lower oven) and enter 550° F. 2. Press and hold the BAKE pad (upper or lower oven) for several seconds until TEMP ADJ is displayed. 3. Press the AUTO SET pad - each press changes the temperature by 5° F. The control will accept changes from -35° to +35° F. 4. If the oven was previously adjusted, the change will be displayed. For example, if the oven temperature was reduced by 15° F, the display will show -15° F. 5. When you have made the adjustment, press the CANCEL pad and the time of day will reappear in the display. The oven will now bake at the adjusted temperature.
Do this first and you will be back to normal. If your using a oven temp. checker make sure you let the oven cycle for awhile. Preheat should take about around 10min. Remember 350deg is an average temp.
Have a great day!

On my Hotpoint RB787 range, how can I prevent my broiler element from being on any time the oven has been turned on?

There is no adjustment. When set to bake, BOTH elements are supposed to heat. On broil, only the top heats. To answer your question, you can't..........

Temperature setting is wrong. Stove is about 80 deggrees cooler than what the knob is set at. I am a yooper too.

If you think it is too cool, adjust the thermostat to make it hotter.

To Adjust the Thermostat:
1. Put the Oven Set knob in the OFF position.
2. Press and hold the HOUR INCREASE and the HOUR DECREASE pads at the same time for 5 seconds until the display changes.
3. Immediately, before display changes back, press the HOUR INCREASE or DECREASE pads to increase or decrease the temperature in 5 degree increments. The oven temperature can be increased up to 35°F.hotter or decreased 35°F. cooler.

If the oven adjustment is set cooler than the factory setting a minus sign “–” and the new temperature will appear in the display.

4. Wait several seconds for the control to automatically set and return to its previous setting.

NOTE: This adjustment will not affect the broiling or the self-cleaning temperatures. The adjustment will be retained in memory after a power failure.

To Adjust the Temperature on Models with Only an Oven Set Knob
1. Put the knob in the OFF position.
2. Pull the knob off by pulling straight out.
3. Press and hold the HOTTER or COOLER button for 5 seconds to make the oven 20°F. hotter or 20°F. cooler.
When you are adjusting the thermostat, the following lights will flash indicating where the thermostat will be set when you release the
adjustment button:
OVEN ON indicates the thermostat will be set at the factory setting.
PREHEATED indicates the thermostat will be set 20°F. hotter.
CLEAN indicates the thermostat will be set 20°F. cooler.
4. After you have made the adjustment, replace the knob.

Hotpoint gas oven

This is an indication of low gas pressure to the oven. This condition may improve when other gas equipment is turned off and worsen when demands increase such as during cold periods where heating plants are running. Contact your local gas company to check pressures at the burners and adjust the incoming pressure to the oven accordingly.
