It has shear pins that should snap before you do any damage to the power takeoff components. Is there an engagement mechanism for the auger and impeller, or do they run continuously?

be careful, if the engine over revs it may just explode. These engines are very picky if over sped and easily blow up.
Your problem may be a broken throttle control rod, have look at that first. If the control rods are fine and in place it could be the fly wheel governor is worn out.

SOURCE: Yard Machines 22 inch mower, I dumped it on its

if you bent the blade most likely you bent the crankshaft too.
Remove the spark plug and pull the rope and remove excess oil from the spark plug hole
check the spark plug for spark if you have none then a flywheel key is sheered a more in depth fix.
If you get it started you may notice a whole lota vibration due to a bent crank shaft or maybe not?

From what you describe it sounds like the line may be tangled, remove the rewind housing in order to inspect the line up close.

I have a MTD snowblower yard to adjust

There should be metal shoes on the side of the snowblower. They have adjustment bolts that allow the auger housing to move up and down. loosen them and adjust to how close you want it to the ground. It also depends on the model. This process only applies to large self propelled models which are a two stage snowthrower. if its a small single stage there is usually no adjustment.

Auger has no torque

Assume it is 2 stage ie: front auger and impeller. If the impeller turns and the front auger does not then it is probably the shear bolts have broken. The shear bolts are soft metal and are designed to break should the front auger hit something hard. There may be a small tool box on top just right of the chute, there shud be bolts there. DO NOT under any circumstances replace these with regular bolts as major damage to the engine could occur. Hope this helps

Snowblower wont go into gear

Hello Jean,

First, remove cover between auger and engine and inspect belts, you should have a drive belt and an auger belt. If both of those are ok then check all linkages from the gear shifter and handle down to the base. Second, you will have to tip unit forward and rest in up position. Next, you will have to remove the plate on bottom of unit. You will see a rubber disc that presses against a friction plate when you squeeze handle to engage drive. These rubber discs do deteriorate over time. I'm confident once you look at internal workings of drive system you will quickly understand how they work. I would bet its just a belt but if you follow the steps above Im sure you will see the problem. Good luck and Happy wrenching!

I have a new Troy Bilt Snowblower. My father ran over a large extension cord while blowing snow, which in turned wrapped the cord around the auger shaft ends. I can now only get one side of the auger to...

Your snowblower has 4 shear pins keeping the front auger safe. Use the manual to locate them if you are unsure where they are and how to change them. Since your snowblower is new I am going to assume you have the manual.
Your snowblower came with 2 spare shearpins. Check up by the handles and see if they are still there. If you don''t have them go to your local Lowes, Sears, or MTD repair shop to get new ones. DO NOT USE STANDARD BOLTS!

The drive shaft coming out of the gear box is one, solid piece all the way across the snowthrower so if one side is turning there is a 95% chance it's the shear pins.
Feel free to ask any other questions. I know Snow Blowers. Please remember to rate this answer!

The 2 rotating parts in the front that the snow is sucked into the machine, only half of it is rotating the other is not moving at all this causes the snow to pile up in front. whats missing or broke?

There is a shear pin that is looks like a bolt that is designed too break if you hit something that is hard and won,t break up.while it is not running rotate the side of the auger that is not turning untill the holes in the auger and the shaft line up then put new shear pin through auger and shaft.

Oil leak and stall

I have not solved the problem yet, however, at this point I am thinking it may just be a crankcase vent problem. Builds to much pressure and stalls and that is also the cause of the leak??? I used the blower again today and when I took out the dip stick there seemed to be a pressure.

I had listed my problem as a lawn mower cause the snowblower wasn't in your list of options to pick from??

Auger stopprd working on an MTD snowblower.

The manual has a step by step procedure for adjusting the cables for the auger, speed selector and drivewheels. One socket wrench and about 10 min should do it.

My Yardworks is an MTD product and it's manual should be similar to yours. If you lost it, you can download it from MTD's site.
