Insignia 42inch plasma screen flickers

Ok so it flickers at random and sometimes the screen goes out completely but then it will come back after a few mins, ive visually checked all the boards for burns or cracks, ive checked all connections, i may need to replace the ysus board an zsus board, but i wanted to check and see if anyone else had this issue as i know no video would make me thing the zsus and ysus boards need to be replaced but it works sometimes and sometimes doesn't.would i need to verify proper voltage to each board, could that cause this issue if it was under charged

no, this has happened in 2 houses so it is not due to magnetic interference

  • dp6721 Jan 18, 2009

It has happened in 2 houses with nothing around them, so magentic interferance would not be the answer, im wondering if the voltages are off on the zsus board an ysus board

  • dp6721 Jan 18, 2009

  • dp6721 Jan 18, 2009

well after hours of soldering and and cable checking still no go, but i did find the spots to check my vsc which is 115 which it should be and my -vy which is -75 which it should be but im not aware of what the vzbias on the z board should be its showing 164 volts can anyone confirm what it should be?

  • dp6721 Jan 19, 2009

Its not proper as something is getting short on the circuit or may be it can be the possibility that whole board bneeds replacement to make it work.

Since the problem seems to come and go, it suggests transient problem that can be as simple as a bad connection or more complex like a failing part. Since the signal levels inside the set are so low, it doesn't take much to interrupt the signal. If the set is still under warranty, request warranty service, but report the problem as an intermittant problem. This will insure that additional testing time will occur and avoid a "no problem found" result. Also, reporting an intermittant problem will effectively extend the warranty if a repair attempt does not completely resolve the problem.

On to your specific case...

If the set is no longer under warranty, the first step is to disconnect and reconnect all cables and connectors. This should provide good connections at all places and resolve the problem if the connection was the problem. If you can solder, examine all of the solder connections at the connectors and on the power supply board. Resolder any that appear grainy of have rings.

Let me know your results.

Look for loose connections also.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, post back the exact model number. Additionally provide information if the problem is persistent whether the Insignia is on TV (tuner), DVD (or external video source) or some other inputs (receiver). Likewise, it might help to know if the problem occurs upon powering the TV or after the TV has been in used, say 1 hour or so.

Check and perform preliminary visual or necessary inspection. Pls post back result(s). Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

You may have one or two problems, the power supply has failed or the Y-Sustain board has failed also. The more common problem is the Y-Substain board if fails the most in plasma television, next comes the power supply then the X-substain board, My best solution for you is to check the power supply first and consider ordering the Y-Board also, the PS is usually the center board and the Y-Board is to the left of it. The X- Board is on the right side..

On a LCD TV either the lamps might not be coming on or there is a video problem. If unplugging it for 30 seconds then trying again doesn't bring it back then expert help is needed.
