This model Gateway can support 4Gb of RAM.
The RAM you installed may not be compatible with each other.
Use RAM of the same make and speed.

SOURCE: MT3705 Gateway, what motherboards will work with

You don't get different mainboards for laptops.....sorry. It's not like desktop pc's where pretty much any mainboard will fit. And even if you could, it's not really going to improve things, as you are using the same speed cpu. Your laptop has 2 ram slots. That's the most you will see on laptop mainboards.

Adding ram is probably the best bet. That laptop shipped with 1 gig of ram.....which is not enough for Vista. I bet it's quite slow. Vista wants 2 gig of ram to be happy, and 4 gig to really motor along. Laptop ram is cheap for that machine, so check it out. Ram is not expensive, and will give you an immediate, very noticeable improvement in performance.

Hope this helps. Post a comment and let me know how you make out

Gateway desktop fx 7026 memory issue, has 4 slots came with( 2 )2 gb sticks = 4 gigs it came with. when i add 2 extra gig it doesnt recognize.

the specs i read says 8 gig is the max. here is what it says for RAM
RAM
  • Installed Size 4.0 GB / 8.0 GB (max)
  • Technology DDR2 SDRAM
  • Memory Speed 667.0 MHz
  • Form Factor DIMM 240-pin
  • Features Dual channel memory architecture
  • Configuration Features 2 x 2 GB

check to make sure you have added the right type of memory. also look at your user manual. it should tell you where and how to place the added sticks. sometimes they have to be added in pairs or have to be in specific slots. also if you dont have the manual it is on the gateway site. you should type in your model and serial number and get all the info you need.

Here are the specifications of the Gateway 838GM: You will have to replace the existing memory with thesesettings only: The machine comes with: 512 MB = 256 MB (removable) + 256 MB PC3200DDR SDRAM DIMMs. Supports Dual Channel DDR Nowyou can only upgrade to 4.0 Gig total.
