Question about Koss KS4192 System

Accidentally switched to PAL output.

It is an NTSC tv. Koss Manual says if this happens, you lose ability to switch back because the on-screen menu is no longer readable but gives no remedy.

Koss Electronics no longer is providing customer support for this product. So I'm on my own. There must be a way to switch this DVD Player back from PAL. I get sound but no video, no menu and no way to even switch Surroundsound settings let alone watch a DVD.

  • hughcameron Jan 20, 2009

I unplugged it for 24 hours. Made No Difference. Thanks anyway.

  • hughcameron Jan 20, 2009

Not exactly what worked but close. Got me on the right track. I followed the menu printed in the manual and even tho I had no video was able to "down" "over" "OK" the right number of steps and was able to switch back from PAL. Many thanks. Working great.

Heft it and turn it over in your hands and you will see that the DVD-L50 is a solid, well-made piece of equipment. Connect it to a television via the built-in S-Video port, and you will be surprised by the image quality, as good or better than most full-sized players.

You'll want to pick up a spare
battery at a cost of about $150, otherwise, you'll be out of charge at
    somewhere around three hours.

I went through same mayhem: I had to find a PAL enabled screen.
Plugged in and changed setting.
I got a video capture device (Video HO) configured as PAL input and I used PC capture screen.
Try to borrow a Pal screen (many flat/digital/PC screen allow Pal/NTSC/Auto selection.) or bring your device to a shop for few minutes test with their screen (simulating you have to buy one) change your settings to test your interface and voila'

Have you tried disconnecting the cable/satelite etc from tv then go into the menu after you unplug for a few minutes. The user guide should be readable after this with no signal coming in.

You can also try to set a dvd player to PAL so the tv gets a pal signal then set both back to NTSC.

Hi there
With your remote, press down, down, down, ok, down, ok. This should set all settings back to factory settings.

Good luck

Welcome to Fixya! The Remedy is to locate an Authorized Repair Center for repairs. This is a Common Problem on Koss Products. Stay on here though, Maybe someone Else has located a Way around it. But, Repair is the Only remedy that I have Expierienced.

I have researched a Bit since your First Post on this Subject Here and on Other Tech sites. Not one person has been able to reverse this Problem. Mostly they all just Purchase a New Reciever. I wish there was a Better Solution to this Problem. Probably the Reason that Koss will not provide Customer Service any longer Also!

Change from PAL to NTSC

To begin, the first and second problems are completely unrelated.

If you bought a PAL TV and are playing an NTSC source, the result will be an invalid format. The two sources are not compatible. However, there are converters available, see: http://www.converters.tv/signals/ntsc_to_pal.html (just as an example).

To the second user. My first guess is that you need to select the proper input on your TV. Look for the "input" button on your TV remote and toggle through each input until you see a picture. The problem may be more complicated than that, but, to troubleshoot, I need to know: what TV you have, how many devices and what devices are hooked to the TV.

Pal/ntsc

Those are the two common standards; PAL is used in Europe, NTSC in the US and they use different synchronization and resolutions which is causing your problem although it would seem that the menu should still appear since that is an internal function.
I suggest you email or call Koss for a suggestion; I don't believe you are the only one who has done this.

You might try pulling the plug overnight to see if the set will default to NTSC but as most sets today, it probably will remember the last settings and to access the area where this is stored is not a job for users.

A TV shop (if you can find one) will likely have a TV signal generator that can produce both standards and this will enable them to reset to NTSC.

Koss KS5190 Display mode stuck

I'm not ranked and I'm not a Guru, but I can solve this picture rolling when the problem is "the video was accidently changed from NTSC to PAL and you can't see what your doing to get it back". You will need the remote control unit. First, remove the disc from the tray. Now, turn the unit off with the power button. The tray will close by itself. After the display on the front of the unit goes out, turn the unit back on using the remote control. This will let you know the remote control unit is working. When the power comes back on and the display on the front of the DVD player says, "NO DISC", with the remote control and (very important) while pointing the remote at the player, (Remember to point the remote before pressing any buttons) press the "Down Arrow" button 3 times. This will take you to the "Display" box. Now, press the "Right Arrow" button 1 time. This will take you to the "TV Image"box. Now, press the "Down Arrow" 1 time, this will take you to the "PAL/NTSC" box. If you have done everything as I have tried to clearly lead you blindly to your destination. Press the "OK" button 1 time and the picture on the screen will stop rolling and change from black & white to color. You will have now changed your video output from PAL to NTSC. If you press "OK" again, it will start to roll again. If this did not take care of your problem, turn the player off and try it again.
The previous problem solvers were on the right track, but the track was rough and they just about derailed the train. Thanks to them, I had a track to follow. I had no other information, except what I found on "Fixya.com". MR. CD
