Question about Washing Machines
Need to trace the location of the burning smell and if this points to the main power supply or board then an examination will show up the damaged part, it could be a mains filter capacitor or a surge protector.

What you all are forgetting and I can vogue for this and prove it because we ripped our washer down......and I have pics... the mold will collect behind the SS tub in the plastic drum housing... every repair man told me NO POSSIBLE WAY!!!! well I was so sick of being sick and my husband decided time to buy a new washer we did and a (top loader i will add). and when the top loader was delivered we ripped the front loader totally apart (any one that would like to see pics you can email it) but be forewarned they are GROSS!!! I have done all the maintenance they have recommended and nothing helped (bleach, cascade, OXY, vinegar, leaving door open (which i may remind anyone is a risk if you have toddlers ) oh yes and lets not forget the washer magic they push down your throat to buy every time a sears tech comes out) I have a family of 6....4 girls and 2 of them babies so I have a lot of laundry....I will be more then happy to share what we found was hiding in the washer's this is not something you can see until you rip it totally down. SOURCE: Strong meldew smell from washer
Clean out the drain filter. mine had one of my kids socks stuck in it. Any small item could get clogged, it is best to use a laundry bag for those items.

I had the same problem. Have you cleaned the filter under the front panel? Simply remove the three screws holding the panel below the door and remove the 2" white screwcap. Be sure to have a basin handy to catch the water. (possibly a couple of gallons if the stainer is really clogged) I suspect you'll find several moldy items that are causing the odor. Good luck.

I've never had a smell problem like this before, but I have had the rubber lining to the door "shred", leaving eraser shavings all over the laundry. This happened with my first HE3t and I complained at SEARS and they just sent out a brand new replacement. About a month or two later, the same thing happened. I had SEARS come out and replace that rubber seal, and haven't had a problem since.
Although I can't answer on the smell, I highly suggest you keep an eye out for shavings on your laundry. Also, with the door open, at the bottom you can pull back the rubber seal slightly and expose the drain to be sure nothing is clogged or getting caught in there.

This machine has a tub clean feature that you're supposed to run with bleach. I did this and it helped the smell s bit. Recently we had an error code and the repair man that came to fix it gave me some good tips. His experience has been that the smell is from too much soap causing build up in the seal and along the tub. His suggestion was to cut back on the amount of he detergent (he said a tablespoon is sufficient). His company recommends using a product called Whirlout (you can buy it at Home Depot). It was originally meant to clean scum out of hot tub jets. Apparently if you call LG they will recommend this product, but haven't bothered to suggest it in the owner's manual. I was told to put one to two capfuls directly into the tub (not the detergent bay) and run the tub clean cycle. I used it last night and it worked - no more musty, yucky smell!
