How do I turn off the touch screen?

If you are using Windows 7, you can follow these steps to disable your touchscreen:
1.Click "Start" and go to "Control Panel"
2.Click "Hardware and Sound" and then click "Pen and Touch"
3.Click on "Touch" tab
4.Uncheck "Use your finger as an input device" checkbox
5.Click "Ok"

As the option "Use your finger as an input device" is not available in Windows 8/ 8.1, you can refer to the following link to know how to disable touchscreen in Windows 8/ 8.1:
http://community.sony.com/t5/Windows-8/Unable-to-disable-touchscreen/td-p/150629

Hope this will resolve your issue.

Toshiba satellite C855D-S5105 HDMI

For the Toshiba Satellite C855D-S5105, HDMI is an option.

If present, believe it to be on the Left side, same as the VGA port.

[General example of VGA connector (Port), and VGA Cable,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VGA_Connector

Note* Color is not always Blue. Scroll down a little for VGA Cable example ]

User Manual states plug external monitor device into laptop, then turn external monitor device on.
External monitor device should automatically be seen by laptop.

If not press, and hold down on the Fn key, and at the same time, tap on the F4 key until the display option you want is shown. Then press the Enter key.

Touchscreen?
That requires a knowledge of Windows 8, which I do not have a full understanding of yet. The User Interface of Windows 8.

It isn't stated by Toshiba, (At least that I could find), as to if the HDMI port; is just that. An HDMI port, or a Mini-Port HDMI port,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:HDMI_Connector.jpg

There are HDMI adapters, and HDMI cables; that adapt from regular HDMI to Mini-Port HDMI.

There are adapters that connect to a VGA port, and convert to an HDMI port.

Windows 7 upgraded to 8, crashed, restarted windows 8, touch screen will not work now, did before, any clues, thanks

There is no way to know where the upgrade failed so trying to repair the upgrade is not an option. I am sure that it is the reason why your touchscreen doesn't work. Try to restart the upgrade process. If that doesn't work, use Lenovo's recovery image or disk to get it back to Windows 7 and upgrade to 8 again.
Make sure that your computer is on AC power, has plenty of free disk space and all non-essential peripherals are disconnected to avoid another upgrade failure.
If it still fails your download of Windows 8 might be corrupted or your memory is creating errors.
I hope this helps, Windows 8 is so much better for touchscreens!
Good luck!
