Cant get my sony handycam dcr-pc55e tape on my pc .

I have a sony dcr-pc55e and i am having a problem trying to get the dv tape of my home movies on to my pc i was told to use a firewire card and cable to get the movie on my pc with the best quality results . The thing is that it does go to my pc for a short while and then it says that the camcorder has been disconnected but it has not , i have tried a number of times and it happens every time but never at the same point of the tape , i have also tried different programes and they all do the same thing . I am using a 4 pin to 6 pin firewire cable . also the quality that it has saved is not all that great anyway . Please can anyone help me i am pulling my hair out !!! Hi, I was wondering if you are using the AC Adaptor while downloading video? When you are not operating the camera, it will shut off automatically after approximately 5 minutes. This is to save the battery. It can be changed in the Standard Set menu: The item is called A.Shut Off. This can be changed to Never. Otherwise, I would use the AC cable if you aren't already.

That's the problem with this website. People NEVER give you enough information and then they give you a poor rating because you didn't read their mind.

The simplest way is via memory card, using a card reader. However, if you want to connect your handycam to your pc, you can download the manual here:

Is the memory stick of sony handy cam minidv trv-18 expandable?

On many cameras , the picture format that you can save on memory stick is not the same that you can have by recording on tapes. It should be tha same on your handycam.

You can increase memory stick to at least 2GB, that is what sony reccomends, you can test a 4 gb to 16 gb at the shop, if it works , then buy it.

However, the quality of movies grabbed on memory stick, should be far less than the one of movies recorded on tape.

Sony DCR-PC55E

I also have a dcr-pc55e and i think i might have the same prob , have you tried a firewire card and cable you will have to buy one if your pc has not got one you can get them off of ebay for a few pounds , i have just bought one because i had the same prob , but now the pc will see the video camera and start to take the images from my camera but then it just stops halfway into the tape . If you can get it to go any futher than i can after this please let me know , i have posted my prob on here to , thanks jimmer . You could try give sony a call on 0870 5111 999 or you could give the handycam helpline a call i think they are called pixella on 00800 15 32 48 65 to see if they can help i hope this helps you . jimmer
