Sears SR2000 typewriter solenoid

The hammer on my typewriter won't strike. I don't know how to remove the print mechanism to replace the solenoid. I assume that is what the problem is. Any help?

If this is a Nakajima print head the print solenoid is on thr R. side of the head and the armatures crack and stop printing.

Where is the TYPEWRITER SOLENOID on a IBM Wheelwriter 6 Series II

The "print" solenoid is what hits the hammer that hits the printwheel and makes it type on your paper. If you remove the ribbon and look straight down in the carrier on the left side you can see the solenoid. It is below the blue piece of rubber that sits on the hammer arm. The end of the solenoid is supposed to have a cap on the end of the plunger. This cap gives a specific clearance so when it is activated, it hits the hammer arm to propel it forward to strike the printwheel.

My IBM 6783-2 will not print any letters and the hammer is not striking the wheel

Your print solenoid probably has a broken cap. There are some companies that sell the "kit" with instructions on how to replace the cap.

IBM wheelwriter won't strike. Ribbon is good. Wheel is working. Carriage is moving. Just not striking. I dusted & cleaned as well as I can, but to no good.

there is a solenoid that fires the hammer to strike ribbon and that most likely is the culprit. sometimes, you can clean solenoid and replace the little plunger to take care of the problem. however, it takes a tech or at least someone with very good mechanical skills to get to it.

good luck,

Is the hammer moving at all? There is a rubber part on the I think left side of the ribbon hammer, down on the side of the printer. This will adjust the amount of impact. I really doubt if
this is the problem, but worth a try to look at. This part and I think it is a blue slide will move up and down to adjust the impact. Possible lubrication and there is a large spring that actually pulls that hammer forward, check to see if this spring is OK. Other than that electronic problems such as main board, printer motors, etc. Does hammer move freely by hand? Also mechanical binding in the printer... GOOD LUCK.
