Each crock pot seems to cook differently I've noticed ..Try starting with a roast aprox 3-4 lbs and cut veggies bite size .Start with setting on high for 3 hrs or so then check it by poking the roast and veggies to check for tenderness..If the dish seem to be cooking fast I would then turn it on low setting for a few more hrs depending on the tenderness of the meat .If you are going to be gone all day I suggest to cook on low and when your home from a long day of work ..presto a hot meal will await you !

SOURCE: when cooking a crockpot roast, do i put my carrots

I always put my carrots and potatoes in first with my seasoning and the amount of water/broth I am using. Then I put my roast on top with its seasoning. Works great this way.

SOURCE: LId to 6 quart crock pot shattered

I have a 5-quart crockpot that cracked across the bottom. I've been using the crockpot liners, and they seem to work very well. No leaks, etc., and food seems to cook just as well as before the crockpot cracked. The liners sure do make cleaning up a lot easier, too!

SOURCE: Is it possible to use the crock pot just to keep

Yes, many use the crock pots as a server on buffets. Turn temp down so as to limit the additional cooking.

Like ou, we got one as well and they are great.
If it's burning or overcooking on Low, it may be the heat control is malfunctioning. My wife made several suggestions...

1. Take it back to where you bought it and exchange it for another.
2. Call Rival Customer Service and ask them about it 1-800-557-4825
3. Put a layer of vegetables (carrots, celery, potatoes, etc) on the bottom and meat on top of it, with fluid to keep it moist. Cook on low for shorter periods of time.

I am cooking a roast and i just need to know how much water to put inside the cooker.

1/4 cup is enough. Roast has a high moisture content and will produce a lot of liquid for gravy! I'd only use more when I am cooking potatoes in the same roaster with the meat, then I would increase to a cup. Cover the roast tightly with foil or a good lid.

Searching for pasta sauce recipe

Barbara....I understand -- I panicked to day when I couldn't find my CROCK-POT recipe book for my Chicken Cacciatore recipe. I think I have that same recipe book -- my CROCK-POT is avocado green. Tthere are two recipes for spaghetti, but I'm assuming that you want the "Italian Meat Sauce" recipe. If not, let me know and I'll send the other one.

Crock Pot Italian Meat Sauce

1 cup chopped onions
1 – 1 ½ pounds ground chuck, browned
2 cloves garlic
1 large can tomatoes (28 oz)
1 6-oz can tomato paste
2 stalks celery with tops, chopped
2 teaspoons salt
3 teaspoons dried oregano
¼ teaspoon dried thyme
1 bay leaf
Put all ingredients in CROCK-POT. Stir thoroughly. Cover and cook on Low for 10 to 12 hours. (High: 3 to 5 hours).
