SOURCE: honda lawn mower wheel drive works, but needs adjustment, how?

Take the covers off the drive, there should be a hollow bolt the cable comes thru, it should have 2 adjustment nuts This lengthens or shorts the cable. There also may be a adjustment on the handle.

My Victa push lawn mower won't shut off. Throttle cable pulls back but won't push forward and springs underneath housing seem extremely loose. What do I need to repair/replace?

Sounds like the inner throttle cable is binding with the outer casing,
This coule be caused by dust and moisture causing rust on the inner cable. I would firstly try to get a light spray lubricant into the outer casing .
I would disconnect it from the throttle lever and spray lubricant onto the inner cable and progressively work the throttle lever to draw the fluid into the outer case. Elevate the lower end so gravity will assist you.

Normally when you move the throttle control on the handle, all that is happening is that governor spring tension is increasing or decreasing pull on the linkage /governor arm. With engine off and plug wire removed, look for a small shaft coming out of the engine with an arm attached. Attached to the small arm will be linkage to the throttle on carb.. So when you move the throttle on the carb with your finger the arm moves also. There should be spring connected to opposite side of governor arm connected to throttle control at the handle or small lever or metal tab. When you incease pull on the spring, the engine will speed-up. Adjust as needed. Good luck

Engine cycles high & low, does not run smooth

I think the gas needs to be changed or the carb needs to have the needle and float replaced. The gas may be just strong enough to fire but misses causing the high and low. If gunk gets built up on the float, then the float can't be "floated" right to open up the needle so the right amount of gas is let in. Sometimes the carb, can be cleaned but it's usually best to just buy a new float kit, which is $5-$7 here. You can also buy a new carb which is about $35. Just depends on where and how you want to do it. Good Luck

How to set the linkages and adjust a carburettor on a Honda HRU 195 mower

Turn the engine off, Put the throttle
lever to the HIGH position. Loosen the
pinch bolt nut on the governor arm a
turn or two; just enough that the arm will
move on its shaft.

With one hand, move the governor
arm so that the throttle plate of the
carburettor is wide open. With your other
hand, use smallish pliers that's
why there is a flat on the shaft to turn
the shaft in the same direction. Hold
everything in that position and tighten
the pinch bolt.

You've just taken all the slack out of the governor linkage.

Recheck the choke, idle and maximum RPM
and you've done all the adjusting
you can do.

The linkage on the top of the carb should go to a spring loaded arm that goes into the side of the motor. Work the lever back and forth and see if it works the carb. If it does and everything is in place your governor mechanism inside the engine might be damaged.

If the arm isnt working the carb it is probably bound up or attached to the wrong hole in the carbs throttle lever. There should be two holes and one of them would force the throttle wide open everytime reguardless of what the governor arm tries to do.

Lawnmower engine idling to low

First, follow your throttle cable down to the carb. Locate the clamp that holds the housing in place and loosen it just enough to move the cable. Start the mower and adjust the idle by the screw that touches the same plate that your cable hooks to. Then push the throttle control to idle and retighten the cable clamp.

Craftsman self propelled walk behind lawn mower sef propel handle will not engage..the wheels will turn if you hold the handle down but the handle won't lock in........is something broken in the gear box?

Normally grass and debris are clogged under the belt/transmission cover, preventing the full engagement of the transmission cable/lever.

The cover is located on the topside, left front corner of the mower shell. Clean debris, try it again. If OK, re-install cover, If not, there is a cable adjustment (threaded portion with a nut on either side of a fastening arm) move the cable adjustment towards the rear, this will tighten the cable. Sometimes the cable assembly (includes the cable and the control box) needs to be replaced

I need to how to connect the throttle to the carb on a briggs and stratton riding mower a diagram would be great.

Don't have a diagram. It's pretty simple, tho.

There is a throttle cable run from the throtle control lever on the dash down to the carburetor. There is a lever on the carburetor -- usually this has a hole in it where the end of the throttle cable hooks.

There should be a clamp in that vicinity to hold down the throttle cable housing to allow the cable inside to move back and forth without moving the cable housing,

Kill switch on handle

I presume it is the throttle switch as well, as most of the mowers have the kill switch there.
the plastic throttle handle should have a round pin at one end which connects to the throttle cable, there is usually a plastic outer cover that is retained by a threaded screw which holds it all together on the handle,
there may be a small screw at the top of the plastic throttle cover which is the adjusting screw for the throttle cable, if you loosen it, pull the throttle lever right back and push the screw down until it stops and then tighten it that will adjust the cable and should shut the engine down when the lever is pulled right back
