Question about Computers & Internet
My Asus M50V laptop shut off randomly the other day it was very warm and i had been noticing it was running hot recently so i ordered a new fan for it. put the new fan in and the laptop will only turn on but will not boot up. i can hear the disc drive kick on and the indicator lights will come on but thats it. ive tried the unplug and remove batter and hold power button trick. ive tried pushing the reset button on the bottom. ive tried a combination of the two things but still nothing.
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

Try pressing FN/F5 keys simultaneously, or the key that toggles internal/external Display. Look for the double screen Icons on the keys.
Tap the Pause Key.
Restart and press and hold F8 key when Toshiba logo appears. When the boot Menu appears, select Last Known Good Configuration.
If all else fails ther should be a reset button on the side of the LT. Consult owners Manual for location

I'm inclined to believe something is going on with the DVD drive, perhaps a I/O cable or driver issue, it just seems like what you said about the drive sounding like it's trying to read is a clue, what I would try if you have not already ,is since you said you can get to get to the Bios usually the default for boot sequence is CD/DVD drive first unless you change it, see if you can change the boot sequence from DVD drive first to HDD first and see if you can bypass it, then it might just boot, if that works then that was the cause,I see no other reason why the Drive should be trying to read other than the boot sequence. if not then it might be more complicated and could be a hardware issue somewhere,
Hoep this helps.

Sounds like the battery is in trouble (discharged) or the charger is bad. If you have access to a voltmeter, read the voltage across the power cable plug with the pack plugged into the house outlet socket. Does a lamp work when plugged into the same socket? If the pack checks ok, then the battery may not be able to receive charge. Have it checked by a dealer.
