Start of the cycle the drum will start to turn but just hums. trys to turn the other way and does the same. it will eventully stop and throw a LE code = over load and motor. All this with or with out...

sounds like if it hums something has the drum fouled if nothing catching the drum then i would say the motor is at fault sounds like the motor is trying to start off the running winding instead of the start winding or a starting capacitor on the motor is bad

Makes a humming sound in the back, and code comes up LE at start of the wash

if the motor is humming there is a fault with the motor,,it could be its just jamed up,,,however if its humming its going to get very hot,,,that wont do it any good at all, check the motor brushes first also check its not a capasitor type motor,,,if the cap has gone that will cause a hum in a motor as well

Press the start button on dryer, it hums but wont turn. With 2 people pressed the start button again, held the door switch, reached in turned the drum, it hummed stopped humming then no more nothing....

Sounds like a weak motor. You'll have to get a new motor installed. They are fairly inexpensive and easy to install yourself on that type of machine if you are handy. Motor is located in the bottom right of the machine, attached to the drum belt through a small pulley underneath the drum next to the motor.

When statrting the dryer it doesn't start but hums

Sounds like a bad motor to me. If you hold down the start button and hums while its pressed its the motor. Depending on how old it is should determine your decision of whether or not to have it fixed. Hope this helps...

Motor Hums on Top Load Maytag Washer

Hi, this is gil1714 in Scotland. Motor not starting properly, and humming. this machine has an induction
motor which has a starter capacitor on the side(the cylinder shaped object). these age out, so try replacing
with one of the same rating (printed on it ??mu). if that doesn't solve the problem, check to see if anything
is partially jamming the drum, or if the machine is overloaded . the other possibility is that the coils in the
motor are starting to fail, which would entail replacing the complete motor. hope this is useful gil.

Not lid switch?

The machine is single phase.
The motor has a capacitor which could be faulty, also motor has two windings (start and run) the motor needs both along with the capacitor to start, once running a switch in the motor disconnects the start winding and the motor continues on the run winding.
possibly either the capacitor or motor winding is defective.
Let me have the machine details may have a good motor UK only.
