Check and clean white stripe, make sure it is clean and white. Check and /or Replace the exposure lamp, they go bad and cause F-5. If lamp is good, replace exposure lamp sensor. Check connector ( flat cable) connections to scanner brd. Replace scanner brd ( board) if defective. If scanner brd is good, replace power brd.

The flashing red triangle which should look like a stack of dots is your toner cartridge empty indicator. You will need to replace the toner cartridge with a full one or have your existing one refilled. A manual for this discontinued machine will be difficult to find.
Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya.
To reset the H4 condition on your Sharp AL 1631 copier press the following key's in sequence and as quickly as possible (with 4 seconds for the first 4 keys) Press "C" then the far left key (exposure mode) then the "C" key then the far left again. So in other words C, far left, C, far left If done correctly the display should go blank. Now key in 14 as if you were going to make 14 copies. Now press the print button. The machine should reset and the code should be gone. 9 times out of 10 this is a false code that pops up due to power surges or noise. If the code comes back this means you have a heater lamp or thermal fuse (more common) failure in the fusing area and will need service. Thank You for using Fixya. Most likely when removing a copy someone hit the scan lock on the front of the machine.
Look on the front , bottom side of the scanner where the paper comes out. You will see a latch that is used for shipping the machine that is more than likely locked.
Thats what causes an L1 90 percent of the time. Just slide it to the unlocked position or take a small screw driver and remove it and throw it away. You can put a piece of tape over the opening to keep dust and moisture out
To reset the drum light press the following key's in sequence and as quickly as possible (with 4 seconds for the first 4 keys) Press "C" then the far left key (exposure mode) then the "C" key then the far left again. So in other words C, far left, C, far left

Now press the "print" button Now key in 7 as if you were making 7 copies Now press the print button again. You should now be getting flashing zero's on the display. Turn the machine off then on again and your drum light should be gone!
That is the drum replacement light reset it by pressing these keys: Clear, then the far left key, then Clear again then far left again.
So C, far left, C, far left
If done quickly like within 4 secomds the display should go blank. If so then key in 24 as if you were making 24 copies.
Now press the print button.
Now key in 7 and hit print again.

You can reset your drum life at least once with no problems.

This might refer to your scanner assy being locked. The scanner assy is the unit under the glass that scans your document prior to copying it. Look inside the cavity where you pick up your completed copies. Look at the upper left corner and see if there is a knob there. If there is, make sure it is in the completely unlocked position.
