How can I get the card reader to recognize sdhc cards

SD cards read easily; sdhc cards not recognized. I know this is because the SDHC is not supported, but how can I fix it? I bought a Targus USB card reader (TGR-MSD500) but it does not work either, package says works with SDHC and Windows XP which is what I have. The card I cannot read is 16gb.

It's not your card reader, the SDHC mini firmware is dead that's why your reader cannot detect it. Warranty, return it to SanDisk for a new one. Every hardware you plug or attach to a PC or Laptop has what is called a firmware, a mini program that communicates with your PC and Laptop that's how they syst

SD card not recognized

What happens when you tried to plug-in SD card to the computer?

Have you made any recent changes to the computer prior to the issue?

To make the SDHC be recognized by the computer, we need to ensure that the card reader works in Windows 7 first. Please check if the card reader is recognized properly by the computer and you have installed the driver for it.

Meanwhile, you can plug some other storage cards to the card reader and see how it works.

I would suggest you to refer the link below

Sigma 4in1 card reader not working

Try a different / all other USB ports on the computer, and if possible, a different computer if no USB port on your computer works with it. If it still doesn't see the drive, the drive is probably not working. If it does see the device, but is asking for drivers, provide a disk with drivers that came with the reader - or check the Sigma web site for drivers that work with you OS (Windows, Mac, etc.), download and install / extract.

If it sees the device, but doesn't see the memory card, the reader may not recognize the newer, larger capacity memory cards. SD cards are smaller than 4GB in capacity, and SDHC cards are 4GB and larger. Make sure that if you're trying to read an SDHC card that the reader SPECIFICALLY says it works with SDHC cards. Most SD readers can NOT be upgraded with firmware to be able to read SDHC cards - a new SDHC reader is required.

Good luck!

I got an Aluratek air ebook reader,I have a bunch of 4 & 8gb SDHC cards, does not recognize any of them, the only card reads is a 2gb SD, though claims it can take up to 32 gb SD cards,I checked with a...

Checked on there web site says they can handle 32 GB cards. But you said something interesting you said you have SDHC cards, which are NOT the same as hd cards. So while a device may take one cared they will not take another card.

Not sure what the difference is but different they are. Try a larger SD card if you can find one, probably find the SD format will work fine but SDHC not at all.

Hope this helps

Toshiba type "A" sd card

I beleive the memory that it can read is only limited by the software you are running such as windows XP sp1 and 2 can recognize upto 2gb SD cards but keep in mind that SD cards only go to 2gb anything bigger than that are SDHC and are the same size but designed differently so the reader must be able to read SDHC format. Note if your hardware is capable of reading SDHC cards and your software limits your ability to use anything bigger than 2gb you can still insert and use upto 2gb of space on an SDHC card that is, say 16gb so that is how you can tell if it is hardware or software that limits the use of an SDHC card.

I can not get my Sciphone i9+++ to recognize my 2g micro disc ... i can put in my card reader and copy files to the card but my phone does not recognize it's in there

Hi.

Basically there are two types of SD Cards variant available in the market, they are normal SD card and SDHC card(High Capacity) card..

Mornal SD card can be detected by all the card reader, but if you have a SDHC card, it can de detected by normal card reader , you should need a special SDHC certified card reader, so you wont able to read the SDHC card from your card reader

If you have the following logo present over the card, then it states that, you have a SDHC card..

Canon powershot sd1000 malfunction

If the camera is not recognized on any other computers it's hooked up to either, your best bet is to take the SD card out, put it in a card reader, and plug that into your computer. If the card still works, you should be able to pull all of your pictures off--probably way faster than using the data cable too.
If your card is an SDHC card, make sure your reader can read SDHC. Most laptops made in the last 3 years have card readers, but they might not read SDHC cards. You should be able to pick one up for $5-10 at the store.

Wrong SD cards????

Your printer may have issues reading SDHC memory cards. The Secure Digital 2.0 standard (SDHC) is not backwards compatible and requires SDHC compatible devices in order to function.

Nikon D40 Memory Card Error

Hello. Make sure the write-protect switch on the SD card is in the UP (nearer to the contacts) position. Try the card in an SDHC capable reader on your computer first. Note that the SD card can only be inserted one way - make sure you're not putting it in upside-down! If the computer recognizes the presence of inserted card (whether it can read it or not), format it at FAT32. When finished, remove properly (icon in system tray) and insert into your D40 slot, WITH THE CAMERA OFF!! Turn on the D40, and if it now recognizes the SD card, FORMAT it again, in the camera. Good luck.
