i have an acer t180 which has 1gb ram and amd athlon 64x2 processon which gives me 2.01 ghz speed, i'v installed windows 7 ultimate converting from xp and everything seems to be running fine, there are netbooks etc which have low ram and processor speed but they still are sold by big companies with windows 7 installed
Aspire T180 Specifications
AMD AM2 Athlon 64 x 2 or Athlon 64 or Sempron (940 pin)
256MB DDR2 533/667/800 SDRAM expandable to 4GB 1 Ok now that i found the spec for your computer here we go you can install the amd 64 x2 but not Phenom x4 9950
2 As for the graphic card you seem to know a little about computers so you can install and pci express x 16 graphics card that only needs one slot but remember some need power and this mean you my have to upgrade your power supply. So really you can by any single slot pci express graphics card for your computer so it comes down to how much you want to spend. 3.Ok for ram your max will be 4 gbs most likely ddr2 which mean that you have 4 ram spot in your computer. hope this help please vote for me.
Is your onboard video busted? as i check your specs; you have these slots available in your motherboard
2 ( 2 ) x PCI ¦ 1 ( 1 ) x PCI Express x1 ¦ 1 ( 1 ) x PCI Express x16 ¦ 1 ( 0 ) x processor ¦ Memory
base from: http://www.twenga.co.uk/specs-Aspire-T180-ACER-Desktop-PC-243132
so, you can go to your nearest computer shop and ask them for a videocard that uses PCI Express x16, if its for gaming then go for the higher specs, i can't assist you further with regard to the exact video card model though.
Need to look at the motherboard specs along with the processor "Socket". It will usually be a 754 or 939 depending on what your motherboard says. I wouldn't try too fast and set yourself up for disappointment. I would upgrade the RAM before the processor.
Actually you need to install chipset drivers first then you shoud try for additiona PCI driver like external sound card.
Try one thing again, go to your www.acer.com site and search driver as per your "Service tag no." not for model no. and download drivers for 'Chipset' and others as per your requirement.
