SOURCE: hotpoint ultima wma76 water level switch loaction?

Should be located under the lid near the top edge, round shape with a tube going to the bottom of it and wires in the front. To remove from the frame turn the whole thing 90 degrees as fitted with with rectangular fitting on rear.

The Water Inlet Valve on your washing machine is used to fill the tub with cold, warm or hot water for the wash and rinse cycles. The valve is operated by electric solenoids that are controlled by the timer or electronic control board and the water level control/water level selector switch or pressure switch. If your washer continues to fill during a cycle, the water inlet valve could be at fault. To verify that the valve is at fault, unplug the washer when the symptom occurs. If the washer continues to fill, then the water inlet valve is defective. If the washer stops filling, then the problem is related to the electrical circuit that controls the valve. The water level switch is a pressure activated switch that is used to determine the correct water level in the tub. This part is normally located behind the control panel and will have a hose or air dome tube that connects it to the tub. On washers that use an electronic control, this switch may be located at the sump area below the tub. As the water fills in the tub it will compress the air in the tube and push against a diaphragm inside the switch. The switch will control the water inlet valve and turn the valve off at the correct water level. If the tube has a leak or is plugged, not enough pressure may be created to activate the switch and the washer may overfill. If the switch is defective it may also cause the machine to overfill.
To determine if the switch is bad, you should first eliminate the air dome hose as a problem. Look for signs of cracks or worn areas on the hose. Remove the hose and submerge in water. Seal one end and blow air into the other end and look for bubbles. Check for an obstruction in the hose as well. If the air dome hose appears to be ok, then the water level pressure switch may be defective. Inspect the switch for signs of a mechanical defect or debris plugging the hole in the inlet nipple. To test the switch contacts for continuity with a multi-meter, you will need to apply the proper amount of air pressure to the air dome tube and then look for the switch to go open circuit at that level. The easiest way to do this is to start the washer and allow it to fill to the normal level and then remove the power cord. Locate the pressure switch and remove the wires from the correct terminals and then perform the continuity test. There should be infinite resistance or an "open circuit" when the water level is correct. If not, then the switch is defectiv

This problem is due to fault in the Water-level switch in washing machine.
The Water-level switch is the part in the washing machine that senses the filling water in the tub. When the water reaches to its required quantity the Water-level switch sends the command to stop the water supply. But if the Water-level switch is faulty. It will sense the wrong quantity of water in the machine. And makes the water supply stop bit early then required. So washer does not fills with required water .The Water-level switch is located at the bottom of the outer tub in the washing machine. Many a times removing and reconnecting the switch makes it proper. in other cases it needs to be replaced.

The washing machine is overfilling the water?


A defect in the water-inlet valve .The water inlet valve is the device which allows the water in the machine when the machine is turned on.but if the valve is faulty then it will not stop water to the machine even when its turned off.so the washing machine overfills with water.
The valve is located at the back of the washer, and it will have water hoses hooked up to the back of it. Shut off the supply of water to your washer. Disconnect both hoses at the back of the washer. Before removing or checking the valve.you need to replace the valve if its faulty. If the water -inlet valve is checked OK.Then the other possibility to check out is the Water-level switch.The Water-level switch is the part that senses the water in the tub.if the water reaches to its required level.it command the water supply to stop.But if the switch is faulty then it will not sense the water and water keeps on filling and at last water overfills due to Water-level switch not working properly. The Water-level switch is located at the bottom of the outer tub in the washing machine. This will help.Thanks.

Low water level on wash cycle just in to bottom of drum this cannot be right

If the tube has a leak, not enough pressure may be created to activate the switch and the washer may overfill. If the switch is defective it may also cause the machine to overfill. To determine if the switch is bad, you should first eliminate the air dome hose as a problem. Look for signs of cracks or worn areas on the hose. Remove the hose and submerge in water. Seal one end and blow air into the other end and look for bubbles. Check for an obstruction in the hose as well. If the air dome hose appears to be ok, then the water level switch may be defective.

You can test it with a meter and with a manual test? ( first locate it in the panel, it has a plastic clear tube hose going into it, remove that tube from its connection, now put another small tube or hose into the slot where it was and have the machine set to wash cycle with water in it. Blow into the other end of the tube.
If the machine starts to wash. the pressure switch is more than likely good
( No wash- then THE DIAPHRAGM IS BAD AND SWITCH HAS TO BE REPLACED).

The other item to check would be your water inlet valve. Check it for continuity with a multi meter it should show Ohms or a closed circuit. To test it when water is overflowing unplug the unit and see if it still overflows or continues to fill. If it stops when unplugged. Then it is not a water inlet problem but an electrical signal problem going to ur water inlet valve. Possibly from the panel or board.

The cut off system for the water level no longer works and it overflows if you dont manually move the knob forward


If the appliance works when you move the knob forward it means that the timer work is working and that the inlet valve is not stuck open. In that case the problem is the water level switch that does not cut off when water level reaches the limit. The water level switch is a pressure switch.

Replace the water level switch. before replacing the switch you can check its connectors and try cleaning the rubber hose attached to the switch. The pressure switch is located in the control assembly and is part nr.10 in diagram below:

Water will not cut off


the level switch is located just next to the timer control, it is a pressure acitvated switch feed by a tube on the side of the washer outer tub, it may be plugged, remove the back of the panel and blow air low pressure air into the tube that is connected to the level sensor, if it seems clear replace the level sensor switch

Washer fills with water and runs over. water doesn't shut off at level settings. what could cause this problem?


HI, there is a water level switch that monitors the water level in your unit. this switch has failed. replacing this switch will fix this issue.

It is located inside the washer near the water valve assembly.

Washer overflowing


Remove the control console cover. Find the water level switch.
It has a small tube attached to it.
Remove the tube and blow air through it. It is probably stopped up. Reattach it to the water level switch.
Look over the length of the tube and may sure it is not pinched.
Set the washer to spin and run spin for about 1 minute.
Then run water on a lower level and see if it shuts off.
If not replace the water level switch.

The pressure (water level) switch is located inside the console connected to the water level selector knob (first knob from the left).
