"One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it." It displays this error mesg everytime I connect my USB mouse to the laptop. It was working fine before. It stopped working all of a sudden and I thought it ran out of batteries. I tried changing the battery and reinstalling the driver but nothing seems to work. The mouse is less than 6 months old but bought from so I dont even know how to claim warranty.
I have also tried Solution #1 and it doesnt work. Please help, my efficiency is 50% without this.

Between home and work, I have multiple computers and numerous mice. I've tried switching them around to get around this problem. I only have this problem on my laptop that runs VISTA. All my pre-Vista machines are truly plug-and-play with all my mice. Disk with software is only needed to use enhanced features and program the extra buttons on the mice. Even my new Microsoft mouse won't work with Vista.I don't want to knock Vista, I like every other feature of it I've used so far, but this unknown USB error ir really hampering my productivity.

Did you install the CD software program that came with your mouse?
If you did and it gave you the unknown device, Then disconnect the mouse receiver from the USB port and reinstall the software program from the CD.
Then if that doesn't work try the following.
Normal 0 Turn the mouse over and find the smallrest/connect button on the bottom of the mouse and press it toReset/Connect the mouse to the receiver and work properly.
If not, try pressing the receiver button and then pressthe mouse. This should be done whenever you change batteries orglitch.
Hope this helps you. Bud

My wireless mouse was working, and then it stopped working all together and the usb reads as unknown device. the batteries are fresh and in full power. how can i fix my mouse without having to buy a new...

Firstly try a different USB port.

If that fails - do the following:

Click on Start, go to RUN and in the command box type:
devmgmt.msc and click on OK

Look for any device with a RED cross or a Yellow Exclamation mark next to it. RIGHT Click on the item and click Uninstall.

Once you have un-installed it, unplug the mouse USB connector and plug it into a new USB port and let windows re-detect it.

Hope that works for you. If it still does not detect it - the USB receiver might be faulty - best is to try it in another PC. If it also fails on another pc - it is the receiver and not the PC itself.

How do I connect this mouse to my computer?

the mouse is wireless. If you bought the mouse from a store it should have came with a dock, that connects via USB to your PC/Laptop etc.. The dock will be plug and play, which means as soon as you plug it into your PC it will pick-up the device and automatically begin to install the drivers for the device.

Once you have plug the usb dock in, and it has installed the drivers. Aslong as the mice has a charge it will be ready for use.

I puchased a GE Optical Mouse with a USB connection (98529). After I plugged it in, I got the new hardware detected message, but it said "unknown device". The cursor would not move to allow any other...

You need to install the drivers that came with this GE optical mouse so that windows can properly install and identify the new mouse. Pop the driver cd that came with the new mouse into the cd drive and follow the instructions. If you need more help, let me know ok?

How do I install a MO-1727-MB wireless mouse to my laptop. I got this through ebay with no instructions.

It should install itself soon as you plug it up. If not shut down and restart. If it does't then, go to control panel add a device. Do a search for the device. It shouold find it. There is a connect button on the mouse and the usb device. Push the button and it should connect with the usb. If there isn't the right driver already in windows. It will install a generic one to make it work for now. Then go to the website sakar? And download a driver.

USB device not recognized

Two things to try. First try a different USB port. If that doesn't work go into Control Panel> System>Devices and find the device. It should be under Unknown devices. Delete it and unplug the mouse. Reboot and then inser the mouse. If that doesn't work tyhe mouse may be faulty.
