Dell E510 Freezes during Bios Load

I have a Dell E510 computer which was new in October of 06. It occasionally used to freeze when the bios would load, but now almost always does. If you turn the computer off and restart it, it will start alright. It doesnt seem to have any other erratic issues other than that.

I'm debating on replacing the CMOS battery but someone said that if it doesnt say "restored to factory defaults" on load that it couldnt be that. Although I think the splash screen might cover it.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

My computer stays on bios and wont start

Restart your computer
During the boot process you will see on the screen to press a certain key to enter setup usually the Delete or F2 key
this will vary depending on your computer and operating system

Press and hold that key during the boot up process to enter BIOS using the arrow keys load failsafe defaults or load optimized defaults press escape then press f10 to save to cmos to restart

hope this helps

Hello,
First off, try going to BIOS. Usually you have to tap either F2 or Delete on dell computers while booting up to enter BIOS. If you're successful, and you're in BIOS, observe for a few minutes if it will freeze while in BIOS. If it doesn't then you might need to reinstall windows. If it freezes in BIOS as well, then there's a hardware malfunction/problem. That will be the time to have a technician check the hardware on your desktop.

I have a Dell Dimension E510 and it makes different tone beeps during and after startup. The computer works ok, but the beeps are disruptive. Seems like there are many more beeps during processing steps,...

When you first switch on your computer it checks certain things to make sure everything is OK and sends out multiple Beeps if there is a problem this is call POST. If you are getting multiple beeps then there is a problem, depending what BIOS CHIP you have and how many beeps you are getting should indicate what is at fault. If windiws is starting ok then it will be a minor problem, the first thing I would check if i was you is the memory. If you have more the one stick of memory installed and one is faulty windows will still start but with the beeping error. Start the computer and goto the control panel and click on System and check what memory that is showing and compare with what should be installed. If its the same then the fault is somewhere else and you will have to give more infomation like what is the system bios and how many beeps.
Good luck.

My computer freezes on startup and wont do anything else

If your computer starts to load the windows and then freezes I would suggest booting into safe mode and running a virus scanner maleware/spyware. Chances are it's a software issue another suggestion would be to use the cd that came with your computer "recovery cd" go into the bios setting of your computer and tell it to boot to the CDROM first. The recovery cd will have a repair option this option will more often resolve most issues.

To access the bios try looking for "enter setup" when your computer first starts up. Usually its F8 or del but some bios's are different

However, with out knowing the OS you're running this is all that can be offered but its a good start.

Dell Dimension Startup

try going into your BIOS and changing the boot sequence, it may be set to boot from floppy instead of harddrive. or you could just reinstall windows, but that sucks cuz then you lose all your data and programs. and not to be rude, but you shouldnt have bought a dell, they are full of problems.

Optiplex Gx110 Freezing on Bios Post

The only thing I can think of is there should be a jumper pin that on the mother board that resets the cmos. Unplugging the battery does not clear the cmos rom. My guess would be the cmos rom is currupted and unfortunatly you need the rom loaded before you can flash and replace it. My advice is ditch it.
