Open the bays on the bottom of the laptop, it may be under the Memory Mods. Take a look at this for a general idea: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZoYVztAcCiQ

RESETTING BIOS FOR HP DV2100

This is normally hitting the Delete key at starting up during BIOS posting. There should be an exit menu where you can load BIOS DEFAULTS. If you can't find it the other way to clear CMOS is to remove the battery. Read the Maintenance and service guide.

Prepare the computer for disassembly (refer to Section 5.3, "Preparing the Computer for Disassembly," for more information).2. Remove the real-time clock (RTC) battery (refer toSection 5.5, "RTC Battery," for more information).3. Wait approximately 5 minutes.4. Replace the RTC battery and reassemble the computer.5. Connect AC power to the computer. Do not reinsert any batteries at this time.6. Turn on the computer

Clearing CMOS will set the BIOS to its DEFAULT setting.

The only "resetting" of a BIOS is setting DEFAULTS.

How to get bios password for HPDV 1000 Laptop

to reset the bios password you need to remove the RTC battery for about 2 or 3 minutes, unfortunately the RTC battery on your comp is in a hard to get at spot, here is the service manual link https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&q=cache:Qnll0FDGyLMJ:h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c00312379.pdf+HP+DV1000+manual&hl=en&gl=au&pid=bl&srcid=ADGEESjzOpN2_LzzpCtFcLAfb1GrMzBa4i-cpUBBFBw4OX8ZGupLrTjOGEt6WsFxtfHp1R29eL6L5PRZw8qlrkfJ0_A5Gu1DvHRbeDza3CZP1gj3EumC2ZGWlHkZ2IrBi31LPC6Oc23k&sig=AHIEtbRkO_TzCI2L6EuzJDQZcdvA8qh4Mw&pli=1

My hp dv9000 cant update or correct time and date

If the laptop doesn't keep the correct time, and date, it's because the CMOS Battery is shot.

In the HP Pavilion dv9000 series of Notebook PC's, the CMOS Battery is named RTC Battery. (Real Time Clock )

Replace the RTC Battery.

On the above page, scroll down, and left-click on the file name in blue -
HP Pavilion dv9000 Notebook PC - Maintenance and Service Guide

Ignore the following if you are aware;

This is a PDF file. The computer you are using now has Adobe Reader on it, which uses PDF files.

After you click on the file name it may take up to 30 seconds, before the first page comes up.

At the top of the PDF file is the page number box. It is to the Right of the Down Arrow.
You can use the Down Arrow to go page by page, until you arrive at the page you want, or you can do this;

1) Put your mouse cursor in the page number box.
2) Left-click once
3) Type the page number
4) Press the Enter key

Or you can use the Bookmarks menu to the left.

Go to Page 131.
5.7 RTC Battery

A) Remove ALL power. Remove the AC adapter (Charger) if plugged in, and remove the Battery. (Main battery)

B) I would advise buying an ESD wrist strap, and wearing it.
Connect it's alligator clip to a good ground source.
(Electro Static Discharge)

Average cost is around $3 to $6.

Your body carries Static electricity. Static WILL fry out (Short Circuit) the delicate hardware components inside a computer.
Use an ESD wrist strap, and breathe easier.

Don't know if you have ever replaced a CMOS Battery in a desktop computer before, but the Battery is the same.

It is just soldered to two wires, and put into a small plastic bag that has a cable coming from it, with a connector on the end.

(NO, I do not recommend trying to solder wires to a CR2032 battery! May go BOOM)

http://www.vendio.com/stores/CMOSBATTERIES/item/hp-cmos-battery/replacement-cmos-rtc-battery-f/lid=3032230

The above is from a quick search. Scroll down for laptop compatibility

As you can see in the Service Manual, you need to remove;

1) The Memory Compartment Cover. Page 28
Table 1-8, Bottom Components

Number 6 points to the Memory Compartment Cover.

The RTC Battery is fixed to the laptop with double-sided tape.
New tape should come with the new RTC Battery.

Bios lock

Try this link

Easiest Method would be to follow these steps

1: Unplug Power Cord from Power Supply in Back
2: Open Case
3: Locate Round Battery on Motherboard
4: remove Round Battery
5: wait 5 Minutes
6: replace the battery
7: Close case and plug power back in.

This should solve your problem.

If not try the solution below

Clear cmos

Typically to clear the cmos there are 3 pins with a 2 pin jumper, near the battery.
Pin 1&2 clears the cmos and pin 2&3 is default, do not do this when the system is running or it will kill your motherboard.
