Question about Samsung SL605 Digital Camera

1 Answer

How do I change the resolution on a Samsung SL605 camera?

I've changed the quality and photosize settings but for every photo when I check the resolution in photoshop its always at 96 resolution. I know I used to have it to be at 300 resolution and I can't figure out how to switch it back. I've reset the camera too and nothing works.

You're looking at the dots per inch (DPI) setting. The DPI is an output specification, used when outputting the photo (either on paper or a computer screen) and is irrelevant as far as the camera is concerned. The camera fills in a value simply because it can't leave it blank.

You can take the same photo and print it out as a 4x6 and as a 8x10 and you'll get different DPI settings because the photo is covering more inches in the second case than in the first. For example, if you have a picture that's 3000 pixels in the long dimension, you'll be printing it as 500 DPI in the first case and 300 DPI in the second.

I am not positive if this is what you are looking for, but if you use the menu button on bottom right corner of back of camera you can change the settings for the picture resolution and the fineness of the stored images. If you set this and it still will not take the change, suggest removing the memory card and then turn camera on, use menu button and the go to reset and tell it yes. Then set all the settings the way you want and try it. Dont forget to set the time and date after resetting camera.

Your camera is obviously defective. It may have been a return and resold to you. In any case, you should return it immediately....this problem will only get worse.

My pictures are only 72 DPI. How can I change the resolution to higher quality?

The dots per inch setting (DPI) is meaningful only when printing the picture. As such, the camera simply fills in a default value of 72. You can change it in Photoshop or any other photo editing program. The resolution setting on the camera only changes the number of pixels in the picture, not how you print it.

I have olympus camedia 4.0 mega pixel. old camera. need to know how to change the camera photo storage from 18 photos to at least 64 photos storage

Hi, jamesepatton, and welcome to FixYa.
I am going to assume that you are referring to the camera's internal storage, as opposed to the camera's removable storage card.
Obviously, to increase the storage on a removable card, one need only purchase another, higher capacity storage card.
To change the camera's internal storage capacity, one needs to reduce the resolution of the pictures one takes.
Example- your Olympus is capable of taking a 4.0 mega pixel sized picture. This size picture can generate a fairly large data file (after all, pictures- like Word documents- are only data files!) While this is what is normally programmed into the camera at the factory, you are not 'married' to this size. In the "Setting" menu of the camera, there will be an option to change the mega pixel (mp) setting. Try lowering it to the next lower setting (say, 3.0 mp) and shoot until the camera tells you it's full. You may have to try several different mp setting, but eventually you'll land on the right one. It's going to depend a lot on what is in your pictures as well, as different scenes and content can affect file size.
A quick note here: Lowering the mp setting will affect the quality (and/or resolution) of the photo. I have found that for a great majority of the photos that I personally take, a 2.0 mp setting is just fine. I am by no means shooting magazine covers or entering my pictures in contests, I shoot 'em, print 'em and save 'em. Just your basic home pictures.
If resolution/quality is important, I would highly recommend that you save ALL pictures to a removable memory card and leave the camera set on 4.0 mp.
Good luck, and let us know how you go!

What is the best photo size for good quality digital photo prints from my Samsung tl205?

I always recommend setting the camera to take the largest size format at the highest quality or "resolution" settings the camera offers.

Using the largest size and resolution combination provides images with the most detail available in your camera. It will provide excellent results for standard 4 x 6 prints and you'll be glad you chose the larger format and resolution if you wish to edit, crop & enlarge any of your shots. At one point, you'll take a picture that you're going to want to enlarge and frame - but when you have your camera set for smaller images at lower resolutions, jagged edges and pixelization begins to appear in the image. The more you enlarge - the more noticeable it becomes. You see this for yourself by taking a picture of something with small size and low resolution settings and another picture of the exact same scene but with the largest size and highest resolution settings. Display the pictures on your computer screen and enlarge them both to 200% or more. Compare the details and edges of both pictures at the same percentage on enlargement to see what I'm describing.

The size of your pictures has no bearing on the cost of printing them. The only downside is the fact that your memory card will hold fewer pictures. This means you'll need to buy additional or larger memory cards if you find that you take too many pictures between the times you transfer to your computer.

I hope this helps & good luck! Please rate my reply. Thank you.

Canon Rebel EOS - Pictures download read Low Resolution

Canon Digital Rebel cameras let you set the image resolution from small jpegs (low resolution) to large jpegs (high resolution) to RAW (best quality, but require post-processing in your computer before you can print them). It's possible that as you were getting to know your camera you accidentally set the image size and quality to a low setting. Now you just need to change it back!

You make this change in the on-screen menu, under the camera menu (first menu, with a camera icon), first item (Quality). Although Canon no longer has the manual for this camera online, you can see This Review Page for more details on where to change this setting on your camera.

Minolta Dimage S414 Problem with resulution

What you are seeing is the difference between "pixel count resolution" and "embedded resolution". So in your example 2272*1704 is the actual pixel count resolution as recorded by the camera & 72 is the embedded resolution that tells the software (in this case photoshop) what the intended use of the picture will be. 72 ppi is the default for web pictures. You can change this in photoshop by going to the "Image" tab & select image size. The window that opens will show you the pixel dimensions i.e. pixel count resolution and the document size & resolution 72. You just change it to 300 for printing. You can change the default to 300 by going "edit", "preferences", "units & rulers" and setting the values for "new document preset resolutions". This is a complex subject, I recommend looking at the following web page: http://www.fotofinish.com/resources/centers/photo/resolution.htm
