USB Ports Will not recognize new devices on Lenovo Z565 Laptop

The USB ports on my Lenovo Z565 laptop will not recognize any new devices that I plug in. I've tried deleting the USB controllers and restarting...they all reinstalled fine. I plug in a wireless mouse that I've used for a long time--it works perfectly. However, when I plug in some new equipment I have (Lenovo Wireless headphones and the SLICK Cooling Fan with USB Ports), the computer says it cannot install the drivers for those units. Also tried unplugging the laptop, removing the battery and restarting, as one site suggested. No dice. I also had this issue with a Logitech Wireless Mouse. I've tried all 3 of the devices (Logitech mouse, Lenovo wireless headphones and the SLICK fan/USB port) on another laptop we have running Windows 7--all worked fine and immediately. The USB ports aren't shot on my laptop--when I plug items in, they will charge and get power. Plus, as mentioned, I have a wireless USB mouse that I've been using forever--the computer still recognizes this unit. Even after deleting the USB controllers, I plug this wireless mouse back in and the driver loads immediately. The other 3 units it will not recognize or load drivers. Man is this frustrating. Any help anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Strangely enough, I just plugged in the HP Deskjet D4360 which I've been using with no issues ever since I got this laptop and now IT won't connect either. I get an error that the driver was not downloaded.

Your USB ports on your Dell computer are plug and play. If you have issues with your USB port, it is port related, driver related or device related. The following solutions will help you identify the problem to resolve your USB port issues.
To Identify a Working USB Port
Begin troubleshooting your USB ports by checking Device Manager to see if your USB ports or hubs are working properly.

  1. Click the Start button. ClickControl Panel.
  2. ClickSystem and Maintenance.
  3. ClickDevice Manager.
  4. Double-clickUniversal Serial Bus controllersand check to see if all your USB ports, hubs and controllers are functioning correctly. Any devices not functioning will have a yellow exclamation mark in front of them.
  5. If Device Manager shows any USB ports, hubs or controllers are not functioning, check for updated drivers.

To Update the USB Port Driver

An out-of-date BIOS driver can create issues with your system recognizing the USB port.
  • Watch a Video on Steps to Update Bios on Your Computer.
    1. When the update process is complete, your computer will restart again to load the operating system with the new driver version installed.

To Run a Diagnostic Test on your USB Port

Dell has an online diagnostic tool to help identify and fix issues with your system.
  1. Go to theDell PC Diagnosticpage
  2. UnderChoose a Diagnostic Type, selectHardware.
  3. Using the scroll bar on the right-hand side of the window below, locate the listing for USB.

it is realy hard to fix because your mouse supported but other doesn't. that's why recomend to reinstall

What does "reinstall my computer" mean?? Are you talking about doing a system restore or wiping things clean and reinstalling the system software and all the other software on the machin? I'm not exactly a techie, here. I went through the process of backing up the computer in the last 24 hours but I'm hesitant to do anything regarding a system restore or reinstall without doing a bit of due diligence here. I don't want to lose all my data.

Laptop not recognizing device when plugged into laptop how to fix

The computer is not recognizing the device because the appropriate software or driver is not installed on the device.

Most of the time when you connect a smartphone into a compatible laptop the device drivers or software automatically install, so the laptop may recognize the smartphone.

Here are some possibilities as to why the device is not recognized.

1) The USB port is bad.
2) The USB port is not activated
3) One of the devices does not support the other

Here are a few possible troubleshooting solutions:

1) Go to the smartphone manufactures website and download and install the updated device driver and software then plug in the device to see if it is recognized.
2) (if Windows OS) Go to the Device Manager to see if the device is showing up when it's plugged in. If you see the device in device manager right click the device and choose to update the driver.
3) (if Windows OS) Additionally, in device manager you can check your device's USB ports to see if there is an issue with the ports that may be resulting in the smartphone not being recognized. You can choose to re-enable the USB ports or update the software for the USB ports.

Hopes that helps resolve your issues.

Usb ports not recognizing pen drive, external drive, ipods or iphones but 2 out of 3 usb ports will charge the ipod and iphone. please help!! I've tried unplugging, removing battery, device manager says...

Generally USB ports are part of the motherboard so you will not be able to replace just the USB ports. you can try to uninstall the USB controllers in device manager then reboot your computer. they should automatically get reinstalled. also try booting to safemode and check if it will recognize your USB devices.

*if you get a pop up for found new hardware when you plug in any of your USB devices then it would usually indicate that the hardware is working fine and the problem is with your OS

Hi. The USB ports on my lenovo y430 seem not to be working, as the computer does not recognize my external harddisks or external dvd writer. Is there any way I can fix this myself?

If you have tried every USB port and you use another USB device to it.. You may check the device manager ryanpajaro20_7.jpg and check if the USB controllers are disabled.. If not, you may click View and then click Scan Hardware Changes.. If still won't work, that is time that you call lenovo and have you laptop replaced defective USB ports..

First thing you need to do is to know that the USB ports of your laptop is really working. Insert another usb devices or storage such a flash disk. If the flash disk being inserted is not recognized by the system then the usb port you had inserted is malfunctioning or it is defective. But if the other usb devices like the flash disk is working then your new bought mouse is defective. Try to plug the usb mouse to the other ports available in your laptop.

You can get a PCMCIA adapter with 4 USB v.2.0 slots on eBay. It requires power from the USB port on the laptop, but the pigtail connector is included. Works like a charm! Comes from China just like everything else in this country.
