What can drain the battery on suzuki bouevard s40 very quickly?

Hi,first of all to find out if the battery is faultyor if you have a drain on your bike when its switch off,get one of thoes electricle screwdrivers with the light inside it and the wire that comes out of the end of the screwdriver with a crockerdile clip,
leave the ignition turned off, undo the earth lead from the battery, connect the crockerdile clip to the earth lead then touch the screwdriver blade on to the battery earth if the screwdriver dosnt light up then you havent got a drain on the system, when you say it drains the battery dose that mean that the bike loses power and the lights dim,if it is this then the stater is faulty, but if the bike still runs propperly but wont start the bike on the starter then the battery is faulty,I hope this makes sense to you,all the best.

Starter will not engage, acts like not enough power from the battery

A test for a battery drain in the vehicle is to place a test light between the battery positive terminal and the battery positive cable, with the cable disconnected from the battery. If the test light glows bright you do in fact have a power drain.Pull one fuse at a time until the test light goes dim or off and then you will know which circuit is draining the battery. If no fuse removal dims the light, then disconnect the alternator output wire to check for a bad diode draining the battery in the alternator.Do not open doors or trunk etc and cause a accidental drain masking the real drain.DO NOT try to use any accessory or start the car with test light connected.

Complete battery drain

Lets start at the beginning. You check the battery first to make sure a dead cell is not draining the battery. If the battery checks out ok, you disconnect all of the circuits on the truck and then check each one to find out what is "on" when everything should be off.
One thing to check is the relay for the glow plugs.

My 97 suburban doesnt start after sitting for a while or pvernight

This can be due to many reasons but I can list you few which you can check out.

1. Possible that the battery is down , if good the GLOW PLUGS can be faulty as it fails to heat to the required temperature.
2. The fuel pump calibration is faulty - low pressure or a fault in the injectors specially if you experience shudder and improper idling.
3. The fuel must be checked, if there is any impurities or water.
4.Low compression ratio on the cylinders thus reducing the perfect compression ignition.
5. finally if the cranking speed is bad , the starter motor or the drain on the battery when the glow plugs are used and the engine started.

Thank you for using fixya.

My 2003 Renault Megane Scenic 1.9dci expression won't start

The funny sound you mentioned must be identified, could it be the starter trying badly to turn. Here the fault of your battery drain is that the glow plugs take a lot of current and it must NOT come ON when the starter motor runs. Hence the fault could be your GLOW plug relay unit with the auto cut off timer that is faulty. If you keep draining the battery to a lower threshold level , there is every possiblity that the battery life will be lowered . I hope the present battery rating is the recommended Amp/hr rating to give the extra run for the morning start. Next area of suspicion is the starter motor itself , it could have a bad commutator or a bush. It will be good to have a clean up and service. Finally check for excessive drain on your battery with a current check in series for the drain current when the switch if off. If the current exceeds the limit disconnect each circuit to confirm. hope this advice helps. good day

I have a 2002 dodge dakota 5.9 eng. the battery drains down in a few hrs. could it be my stater.i noticed several times before when the eng,got hot &if i shut it off for some reason then would try...

HI. I would start by isolating the actual drain.

Here is a procedure I use to isolate a battery drain. Remove the negative battery cable from the battery. Using a 12-volt test light, hook one end to the negative battery post the other end to the negative battery cable you have just disconnected. The test light will glow or "light" if there is a drain. If the "light or glow" is faint, that is probably normal draw for the clock or computer. If the "light or glow" is bright, this will indicate a large drain is present. That should be corrected, asap. Now start removing and replacing the fuses one by one until the light goes out; The one fuse that causes the light to shut off, will be the circuit with the drain. Remember to close the car doors, when testing. If not, the interior doom light will interfere with the results of the test.

Once you have isolated the drain, have it repaired, asap.

Here is a procedure to isolate a battery drain I found elsewhere and has already proved very useful several times.

Remove negative battery cable from the battery. Using a 12-volt test light, hook one end to the negative battery post the other end to the negative battery cable you just disconnected. The test light will glow or “light” if there is a drain. If the “light or glow” is faint, that is probably normal draw for the clock or computer. If the “light or glow” is bright, then there is a large drain. That should be corrected. Now start removing and replacing the fuses one by one until the light goes out; that one will be the circuit with the drain. ***Remember to hold in the button in the door jam for the interior lights.***
