Try to print the wireless network settings page on your Lexmark X4650 to determine if your printer is still registered in your wireless network. 1. Press the right or left arrow button until Network Setup is displayed, and then press(pattlnk_632008_2052-x4650ok.jpg). 3. Press pattlnk_632008_2052-x4650ok.jpg at Print Setup Page. 4. Check the IP Address and the SSID (network name).
A quick fix for most communication errors can be achieved by resetting the printer and/or rebooting the PC. Frequently, issues are caused simply by a break in the signal sent from PC to printer or vice versa. Unplugging and re-plugging the printer allows the small amount of on-board memory on the printer to be cleared, with the result that the PC recognizes the machine properly. Programs continuing to run in the background of the operating system (OS) can cause the signal to be lost. Rebooting the PC ends all programs that may be running and makes a 'clean' start, allowing the signal to be detected.

Printing but page comes out blank

To allow for full use of the cartridges, some printers continue to print even after the cartridges are completely out of ink. First, check the ink levels. If the ink level indicators show that a cartridge is low or empty, replace the cartridge.
If not, try to restart the printer. Restarting the printer might clear the issues and allow the printer to function correctly again.Press the power button to turn-off the printer then unplug the power cord from the back of the printer, and the USB cable(if connected). Leave unplug for 30 seconds then reconnect the USB cable and the power cord.
If issue persists, try to reboot your computer. Restarting your computer might resolve the issue. If the printer prints all pages correctly, but it adds blank pages to the printout, check for blank pages in the print preview.
If the preview contains no blank pages, check the printer cables. If the printer connects with a USB cable or an Ethernet cable, a faulty connection might cause the issue.
If the issue persists, check the printer settings on the computer. Issues with the printer settings on the computer might cause the issue. Follow these steps to check the computer: Step one: Check the default paper settings. Make sure that the default paper size matches the width and length of the paper loaded in the tray. If the paper loaded in the tray is different from the paper size setting, the printer might print blank pages. For instance, the issue might occur if legal size paper (215 x 355 mm (8.5 x 14 in)) is in the tray, and the paper size setting is letter (215 x 279 mm (8.5 x 11 in)).Follow these steps to check the default paper settings.Click Start then go to Printers and Faxes .Right-click the icon for your printer (c01532298.gif ), and then click Printing Preferences . Under Printing Preferences window click the Features tab. Compare the settings in the Size drop-down menu with the paper in the tray. If the size of the paper in the tray is not the same as the setting in the Size drop-down menu, change the setting:Click the Size drop-down list, and then select More . The Size is window opens.Select the size of the paper that is in the tray, and then click OK .Click OK in the Printing Preferences window, and then click OK in the Properties window. Step two: Print a test page A test page might help determine if the printer installation caused the problem.Click Start , and then click Control Panel .Right-click the Printers and Faxes folder (c01532297.gif ), and then click Open.Right-click the printer icon (c01532298.gif ).Click Properties .In the General tab, click Print Test Page . The printer prints the Windows XP Printer Test Page.If the Windows XP Printer Test Page prints successfully, you do not need to continue troubleshooting.
If the page is blank, print from an alternate program to determine if the current program is causing the issue.Browse to the location of your saved document, right-click the file, and then click Open With .Select a program other than the program you are currently using to print the document.Open the file in the program, and then check the contents.(Most files open in plain text applications, such as Notepad or WordPad, even if the contents include unusual symbols or text that does not make sense). Try to print the file. If successful, the printer prints exactly what displays in the program window. If the document prints successfully in the alternate program, you do not need to continue troubleshooting. The issue is likely specific to the program you are trying to print from. Consult the program manufacturer for assistance. If the document still prints blank pages in the alternate program, disconnect other devices. Other connected devices, such as scanners, MP3 devices, or other printers might cause conflicts in the communication between the printer and the computer.
If the issue persists, go to this link for the rest of the troubleshooting steps. Go directly to solution nine.

I'm trying to scan to my computer & I'm getting a msg "No connection. Turn on or connect comp. or install HP software." I am connected to the printer. Can you help?

First step for ANY HP product is to first power it down completely, which means disconnect all of the cables from it, usb, printer, power supply, etc., and let it sit for a minute or two. This will usually allow the printer to reset its processor upon powering up.
If your PC does not recognize it at that time then I would suggest re-loading the drivers that work with your operating system.
After that all I can suggest is that there is a bad usb port, or whichever connection is being used...

The computer stops loading and waits for approximately 2 minutes before continuing to boot. When we removed the hp Printer usb Plug and the computer boots fine. Please help. Thank you, Althea Mason

The symptom you described happens because your printer is capable of reading memory cards.

When you turn on your pc with the USB cable connected, your pc is checking the memory card slots in your printer to see if any of them contain a valid operating system that can be used to boot the pc.

Once your pc determines the memory slots do not contain a bootable operating system, it then continues the boot process and loads the operating system from your hard drive.

When you disconnect the USB cable, the memory card slot are not present and the pc boots normally. I've run into this exact same situation at work with certain models of HP printers.

My best recommendation is to check the BIOS in your pc to see if it is possible to disable the option that allows your pc to boot from USB devices.

When you first turn on your pc, the screen will display a message informing you of which key to press to enter the setup program. This is where you want to check to see if the USB boot option can be turned off.
Note: Not all pc manufacturers provide an option to disable booting from USB devices.

If you can't disable the USB boot option, check to boot order to make sure the internal hard drive is listed before any USB devices.

I have to say though, setting the boot order so the internal hard drive appears before any USB devices does not always solve the problem even though it should.

Have changed cartridges, now won't print

First, run a self test on your printer to determine its status ok. This doesn't need any connection to the pc. Just to help narrow down the suspect. If that proves ok, then the problem is either your USB cable or the drivers/software loaded unto the pc. Try a flash drive on the connector/port to which the printer is attached on the pc and note the result. if ok that leaves the suspects to cable or drivers. I recommend here that you uninstall the drivers and get them re-installed with the cd that came with the printer. Do just this: detach your printer from the pc and load the drivers. You are allowed to connect the printer to your pc when prompted ok. That way you know that there's communication b/w the devices. If nothing still happens after all this, then, its time to change your USB cable. Good luck

Thank you for your promt reply but I have managed to get things going again as I got hold of the HP web site down loade an updted driver and found out what I was doing wrong. Basically my USB port for an HP Multi printer required an id of 'DOT4' rather than the LPT1 that it had latched itsel onto.
My problems started when XP Service Pack 3 downloaded and I lost funtionality with a few things, so much so now that it would appear that the registry is so full that my system has almost slowed to a halt and I am getting STOP errors after a period which means usually a restart. I have tried the Micosoft patches with little or no success and I am now looking at installing aother hard drive with the view to saving files to as I think my presant drive has been corrupted.

Shut the printer off. Than unplug it's power. Than unplug the USB/data cable. Wait about ten minutes. Allowing printer to reset it's self. Go to pg. 37 of your manual & follow instrctions for cleaning. Connect the power cable, the usb/data cable & turn on the printer. Test printer for error paper jam (light/display message). Canon's web site for drivers, updates, software & guides. PIXMA IP1880 is the iP1800 series.
When web sites loades you must choose your operating system from the drop-down menue.
Problem not corrected? Uninstall printer software. Re-start PC. Re-install software. Re-start PC & re-test.
Hopefully you will not need to uninstall & reinstall.
