It is so common that the drain leaks in many ways and is the most problematic fault in a washing machine. In all occasions it is important that your observation is most important and so is vital to the identification /rectification and solution. If you have noticed that water has leaked then as the drain hose pump/valve and fittings are located on the underside of the machine it is important that you look for possible leaks here. In some cases the drain hose would be clogged at the drain end to outlet of the house and so there will be back flushing resulting in overflow to the outside. Also the drain pump/valve can be clogged or the drain hose clamps can be loose on the grip which can all cause the leak to occur. Removing and cleaning the drain pump/valve, tightening of the hose is also very important. Also water can leak if there are gaps on the front door gaskets and must be checked but this will happen only during the cycle and not on the drain cycle end.

What is the minimum vertical vent distant from top of water heater to top of cap. Water heater is stand alone outside furnishing water for military force provider showers unit.

Generally 40 feet for ordinary atmospheric-vented household water heater...
Straight run to roof.
Atmospheric means no power vent... just hot air drafting upwards
Google search: gas vent height code

Atmospheric venting code depends on 4 basic factors:
Diameter of vent--- bigger vent, more draft
How many water heaters are connected to same vent
BTU per hour rating of water heater-- the more gas that is burned per hour, the bigger the vent needs to be
How straight the pipe is -- are there any horizontal or lateral runs
http://www.ameri-vent.com/files/assets/files/1366372183_Sizing26ApplicationGuide1.pdf

http://waterheatertimer.org/pdf/Bosch_Checking_the_draft.pdf
http://waterheatertimer.org/pdf/checking-the-draft2.pdf

Other factors can include
-wind conditions... higher wind across top of vent pipe on roof can reduce draft, and cause downdraft that blows deadly CO into same room as water heater
-vent termination near high walls, trees, high roof peak etc will reduce draft or cause downdraft
-amount of incoming air supply... if water heater is inside a closed room, then there is no air to draft up the pipe, burner will shut down or burn lazy yellow instead of clear blue
-stuff piled up around water heater that obstructs air intake
-dirty air intake screen that reduces air intake
-vent fans inside same room as water heater that pull air down the vent and cause reduction in water heater draft
-generally elbows reduce draft by 10%
-vent cannot terminate near any window door or air intake for another gas appliance
-bird build nest on top of vent pipe after vent termination falls off
-highly acidic gas by-product causes large amount of condensation inside pipe that burns hole in pipe or drips down and damages combustion parts...blower and inline condensate trap and drain might be required
-multiple water heaters installed on same vent line.

Corroding top of rheemglas 21vr50-2t

Corrosion caused by condensed acidic water dripping down vent pipe, bad venting pushing acidic combustion by-product out of vent hood, trace chemicals stored in same room as water heater, dielectric corrosion because water pipes not grounded, hot water pipe above tank is not insulated and condensation dripping down on top of tank ... are things that come to mind.

Have 75 gallon gas water heater. Can I run 90 PVC off top power vent without vertical PVC first? Have Richmond unit.

1) I believe you can immediately elbow the PVC pipe.
There is a limit for how many elbows can be used between blower and termination, and limit is determined by diameter of PVC pipe.

2) Copy following link for venting resources and typical Rheem and Richmond power vent manuals, and diameter-elbow pdf from Bradford White.

3) Richmond is Rheem. Product manual will show specifications for venting.
Product warranty is voided if installation does not follow specifications shown in manual.

Does new water heater have power vent? What does manual say?
Are you experiencing vent problem now? When you light a match and put it under vent stack, does smoke immediately get pulled upward? Are furnace and waster heater connected to same venting. Is there dark exhaust stain around vent hood? Does exhaust vent back out of vent hood when furnace kicks on? Are flue pipes stained with rust and white coating? Are vent pipes vertical, or are there level runs? Are the pipes made of galvanized and screwed together with 3 screws at each joint?

Frankly I would double-triple-check any internet answer dealing with possible CO poisoning at your home.
1) Ask local plumber for specific code in your area.
2) Call gas company
3) Post question on pro water heater forum:

4) Read whole manual for new water heater before buying.
5) Contact manufacturer.

Add a comment with your experience so others with same-similar problem can benefit.

Water under dryer after use. cleaned exhaust lint in it was wet. should i insulate exhaust tubing. fsminatrea@yahoo.com

Hi

Dryer would be either leaking from vent or due to condensation. The vent may either be blocked. The water is coming from the clothes you have dried in the dryer and it has no where to go.
You need to dismantle the vent and clean it, replace it with new vent. The dryer may now be consuming more time to dry the same load of clothes. By correcting the venting problem you will solve the water problem and shorten your wash day and save on electricity as well.

Another issue is condensation which usually appears on the dryer vent pipe colder climates. As the warm air from the dryer is vented to the outside, it must be protected from the cold temperatures outside. If your dryer vent pipe is not properly insulated, the air that is being vented out will turn into water when it comes into contact with the cold pipe outside. This results in condensation and dripping water. To resolve this, you must insulate your dryer vent pipe along its entire length. This will ensure that the hot air from the dryer does not undergo temperature fluctuations, and no water will leak into the vent pipe. Hope this helps... Please post back if you need more information.

When the hot water heater is running water leaks from the chimney. the pipe from the heater to the chimney is dry upon removal. about 3 gals. of water leaks from the chimney with two showers.

If I understand correctly, your Bock gas water heater vent is causing water to leak down into chimney.
This is a very serious concern

Water leaking from water heater flue indicates improper venting.
The hot air gasses from water heater combustion contain water vapor, but the gas should vent out of house before condensate forms on pipes.
http://waterheatertimer.org/Water-at-bottom-of-water-heater.html#flue

The problem might be caused by a power vented furnace that pushes vent air from furnace down into flue pipe for water heater. As a result, the water heater doesn't vent properly.
There could also be a clog.
Light a match under water heater draft hood and see if smoke from match travels instantly upward.

There are two major concerns.
1) If vent is not working, it means that odorless CO gas is entering home instead of venting outdoors.
CO carbon monoxide is deadly poison.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CO_poisoning
This is a very serious concern
You can buy CO detector after vent is repaired.

2) Water condensate will eventually rust away vent pipes because of acidic content of the combustion vapor. It can be expensive to replace pipes, and pipes with holes pose risk of CO poisoning.

My suggestion is call a qualified plumber ASAP and explain what you observe.
Plumber will want to inspect the vent pipes, and may want to extend water heater vent pipe up further inside chimney so furnace is not pushing air back into water heater vent.
Plumber may also find blockage somewhere in the vent stack or chimney.
Also post on a professional water heater forum like the Tank to double check anything the plumber says to you. These are the pros.

Water in the air vent

In a unrestricted rigid metal vent no water will accumulate. A dryer is exhausting hot and humid air to the outdoors. If the vent becomes restricted with a lint buildup, that lint can become wet. The more restricted the airflow is, the less airflow is available to remove the moisture. if there are low spots, or a flexible vent is used, pockets of moisture can accumulate......especially on a longer vent run.
