the black wire is your common wire, you need to program your thermostat, in the advance mode, to tell the t-stat if your heat pump reversing valve is energized on cooling or heating, is the orange wire connected to your t-stat.= w2/o/b

What does R G W1 W2 mean?

Those are thermostat wiring designations. R (usually the red wire) is the power supply (24v). G (usually green) controls the fan. W1 is the first stage of heating, W2 is the second stage.

Check for power to the unit. If power exists, check your low voltage. Do you have 24volts to R & C at your thermostat?

The thermostat on my coleman heat pump has 7 wires labled:g,y1,w1,x,w2,a,r. but the hunter replacement thermostat i purchaced does not have the same labeling it has rc/r,c,y1,y2,w2,e,o,b,g,l.i need to know...

here is some info may help you
coleman = Hunter
g   =  g
y1 =  y1
     =  y2 (second stage you don't have it on your system)
r    =  rc/r (leave the jumper bewteen rc/r)
x   =  c
w1 =  w1
w2 =  w2
a   =  o
     =  b
the "b" terminal is to energized the revensing valve on heat mode
the "o" terminal is to energized the reversing valve on cool mode

Goodman heating system -gmt1155b is not providing enough heat.

if you are using a single stage with just a W connection not a W1 and W2 then it may be wired to the W1 connection on the furnace contro board. in that case it will only run in first stage. the easiest thing you can do is run a small piece of wire between W1 and W2 on the furnace control board. if you dont have a W1 and W2 connection on the board then its not 2stage, if you have an extra wire at the stat you can get a 2stage stat and wire W1 and W2 individually.

Honeywell Thermostat

Make sure G from indoor unit goes to G on thermostat for fan continous fan, if that doesn't work and you have 24 volts to R and C then the t'stat is bad.
For 2nd stage heat or aux.heat, on the indoor unit you need to make sure the wire W2 from the indoor unit goes to W2 on t'stat.
You don't need any wires from W1on the indoor unit to W1 at the t'stat because with a York heat pump Y1 is the contactor which turns the compressor on and you will get 1st stage heat, and for cooling the t'stat will also bring on O which is the (reversing valve) or cooling changeover relay for the cooling mode.
C = common usually black wire
R = hot usually red wire
Y or Y1 = contactor
W1 = 1st stage heat not needed for heat pump
W2 = Aux. heat indoor heat
G = fan
O = Cooling changeover relay
B = Heating changeover relay
L = System monitor
E = Emergency heat relay

w2 and y2 are used for 2stage applications

w2 = 2 stage heat
y2= 2 stage cool

If your system is a single stage system, look for the y1 and y2 terminals. If the thermostat does not have y1 and y2 then you may have the wrong thermostat. As always, please read the directions carefully. Thanks!
