Hi there, It sounds like you're either missing a codec or a video driver, the former being the most likely. A codec is a small file that tells the computer what to do when you play a dvd. You can download a one time setup pack of codecs here: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/k_lite_codec_pack.htm Download, install, and reboot your computer. Try playing the dvd again, and if it still doesn't work, you may want to update your video drivers.
You need a program, like nero. if that doesn't work then put a DVD in the drive & see if the computer picks it up in the my computer. the first thing that goes in a CD/DVD-RW drive is the DVD heads, thats if your drive is a CD/DVD-RW. Have a look on the front of the drive tray, if it say CD-RW DVD ROM then it doesn't burn DVD's it only plays them.
Tip: Make sure the CD or DVD disc is not in use. Quit all applications that are using files on the disc.
Press the Media Eject key at the top-right corner of the keyboard.
If that doesn't work, drag the disc's icon to the Trash.
If that doesn't work, restart the computer, then hold down the
mouse button or trackpad button while the computer is starting up, until
the disc is ejected.
To restart, choose Restart from the Apple menu.
Hey, I had the same problem. The installed dvd is a microsoft vista product. I went to their technical help page. I can't remember all I had to do but it was something about filters were preventing it from working. I followed Microsoft's directions and removed the filters...now it works perfectly.
I would be more help but I can't get my laptop to turn on. I'm wondering if it's a dead battery issue.
