Are you trying to enable Wireless Security? If so you have to log in to your router's control panel and enable it from there.

Your problem is not so clear but you can try to type 192.168.1.1 in your address bar to go to your router's control panel. If you need a password try admin. you should be able to fix the problem from there. Good luck.

DIR-615 router - I was trying to change my network to a secure network. Now, I have two networks showing - 1 secure and 1 unsecure. Plus, my MAC won't connect now. How do I wipe it clean and start fresh?

You have two issues to deal with.

First, you have set up two profiles on your computer, one is the secure profile, the other is the non-secure profile. You need to be sure the secure profile on your MAC is setup with the security settings you enabled in the router.

You can start over if you wish, but the better thing to do is reboot both the router, and your MAC, to see if the MAC will then connect to the secure profile.

If you want to start all over and eliminate security, then locate the reset button on the router. Usually found on the back of the router. Press and hold for 15-30 seconds. Then unplug the router for 10-15 seconds and plug back in. Reboot your MAC. You should now be able to connect without security.
Delete the secure profile on the MAC.

Let me know if you need more instruction.

How do I disable the "security" on my DIR-600 router?

Which security are you talking about? If you want to disable the wireless security simply click the wireless tab and next to security or where it has your security set it as none.

Thanks,

I have Belkin n150 but the security button turn off

When the Security light on your Belkin n150 is off, it means that the wireless security is off.

The WPS button is used to setup the wireless security. To enable security, you will need to determine which standard you want to use. To access the security settings follow the steps below:

1. In the address bar of your Internet browser, type "192.168.2.1". Then press the "Enter" key.

2. It will prompt for a password to access the Router’s Web-Based Advanced User Interface. By default the password is blank.

3. Click "Security" on the "Wireless: tab.

What is the WEP key

Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP)
WEP is an older network security method that's still available to support older devices, but it's no longer recommended. When you enable WEP, you set up a network security key. This key encrypts the information that one computer sends to another computer across your network. However, WEP security is relatively easy to crack. f4008eb.jpg

Brought a new laptop with wireless installed have a philips SNB5600 but have lost the security key how can i get the code

go to the wireless access point admin settings (not on your wireless adapter on your laptop). then check wireless security settings. if you see something there such as security key, that is the security key that you need to set up on your laptop. if security key is not visible, try to see if there is an option there which says unmask to show the security key, then copy it to your laptop. if all else fails, change the security key in the wireless access point and change all the wireless adapters that connect to it accordingly to the new security key you set it up.

you will need to log in to your router.
in the wifi section select the wpa/psk security and use the serial number of the router as the security key.
you will then need to use this same number to access the router using wifi

How to make a secure connection. So far i have an open connection. My router is Belkin_G_Plus Mimo

Open the router page 192.168.1.1 >> type this in the internet explorer address bar.
1. the Home Page is displayed. Click Wireless from the left menu
8. Changing the Wireless Security Settings
Your Router is equipped with the latest security standard called Wi-Fi Protected Access 2 (WPA2). It also supports the legacy security standard called Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP). By default, wireless security is disabled. To enable security, you will need to determine which standard you want to use.
To access the security settings, click Security.
The Router features WPA2, which is the second generation of the WPA-based 802.11i standard. It offers a higher level of wireless security by combining advanced network authentication and stronger Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) encryption methods.
2. You can configure wireless security/encrytion settings here. Select WPA-PSK (no server) from Security Mode drop-down menu. The new page will display on next screen
3.Setting WPA Security
Note: To use WPA security, your wireless network cards must be equipped with software that supports WPA. At the time this User Manual was published, a security patch from Microsoft is available for free download. This patch works only with Windows XP.
Your Router supports WPA-PSK (no server). WPA-PSK uses what is known as a pre-shared key as the security key. A pre-shared key is basically a password that is between eight and 39 characters long. It can be a combination of letters, numbers, or characters. Each client uses the same key to access the network. Typically this is the mode that will be used in a home environment.
Setting WPA-PSK
1. From the Security Mode drop-down menu, select WPA-PSK (no server).
2. For Encryption Technique, select TKIP or AES. This setting will have to be identical on the clients that you set up.
3. Enter your pre-shared key. This can be from eight to 39 characters and can be letters, numbers, or symbols. This same key must be used on all of the clients that you set up.
