I need info on the make of scsi card that is bundled with scanner
I need any info at all that will get my scanner up and running. the cable that is supplied is a 50 pin scanner end and what appears to be a 25 pin parallel on the other, is this the correct configuration. also i will need to know the make and type of scsi card bundled with the scanner. i would be extremely grateful if you can help me out.

This scanner is Fast SCSI . It was made in 2001. You will need a card in your Mac for a SCSI interface. The cost of the card and scsi cable, if your Mac will accept one, will probably exceed the cost of a newer, high performance scanner. Time to move on? (Umax were not the greatest scanners even when they were made. Umax was a cheaper brand with mediocre software. So how will you get the image into the Mac once you have a connection? Power PC (OS 9) Mac software will not run on OS X.)
We don't have enough information. The SCSI card has to match the bus of the computer ie: ISA, PCI, ect. Adaptec.com is a good place to start. Then you have the problem of a cable with ends that match the card and the scanner. The Epson GT has a parallel interface which might be a simpler solution.
I am very well versed in Canon scanners with many years of experience on them so I hope my advice helps you out. With any canon scanner that uses SCSI only 3 things can go wrong with them. First I would check the SCSI cable so see if the the connecting heads have pulled away from the cable and the tiny wires are exposed. If so one of the wires may be broken. Or possibly a bent pin on the connector. A simple test would be to replace the cable with a good working one. Then try the scanner to see if it will scan.
Second, the SCSI card itself, on boot up while your still in the boot screen you should see something like ADAPTEC SCSI and then some numbers. Or something similar depending on the manufacturer of your SCSI card. That particular scanner uses SCSI II. If you dont see the prompt window on boot up then I would go to item 3 below.
The last thing to try is item 3 and you will need to go into control panel in windows to do that. In control panel I would look device manager and then imaging. Under imaging if you have a yellow question mark your system does not recognize the scanner as being connected to the computer. If you verified that items one and two above are good and functioning correctly then I would disconnect the scanner via the scsi cable from the computer and reload the drivers for the scanner and then rehook up the scsi cable and reboot the computer. Then I would go back to control panel/device manager/imaging to see if the computer now sees the scanner if it does then you are able to scan again. If it does not, and you have confirmed that the SCSI cable and card in the computer are good and working and the drivers are installed correctly. Then it would be safe to say the SCSI port on the scanner is faulty. The scanner will need to be repaired then by a Canon technican.
SCSI to USB converters are available, but I doubt they will be of much help for you, you'd still need a special driver for your scanner. Windows 7 Professional, Enterprise, and Ultimate support "XP Mode", essentially a Windows XP environment running in a virtual machine. I'd try to get the SCSI interface card and scanner to run inside the VM as a workaround.
If your macbook doesn't have the correct SCSI card (SCSI II - d-sub mini 50 pin x2 connector) installed, you aren't going to be able to do this. You will need to find this SCSI card and install it in a computer that will accept it.
I just told someone else this solution...KILL the SCSI junk...I had nothing but trouble with it with my Mac....I got a Ratoc Firewire to UltraSCSI Converter...to solve the regular SCSI to ultra SCSI problem...I also bought an adapter....It works great...no need for a SCSI card...or a driver...you just plug directly into your firewire port!

SCSI devices are detected as the computer is booting. If your scanner was powered on after your computer was already up and running, it may not have been identified by the SCSI card. Try leavinging the scanner connected and powered on and then reboot your computer. Also, the pins on the SCSI cable connectors are easy to bend; inspect the rows of small pins with a flashlight or just try a different cable if you have one.
What port are you using? May be you are using usb1.0 port. Use USB 2.0 port. Sometimes Changing USB cable would do the trick! Try SCSI if you have a card and SCSI cable, but this adds to the cost. All new comps come with USB 2.0. I had similar problem with 9080C and on changing to USB 2.0, it worked fine. Don't use USB & SCSI simultaneously.
