Question about Kitchen Ranges
Ignitor looks to be good in heating business so know what bad ones look like.Jjust not sure why would stop working and have gas smell when it was on and working before it died. Don't want to start replacing parts to find a solution.I want to know what part would cause that to happen.
Our Maytag MGR5729ADW recently started having a problem. Whenever the oven was turned on gas would flow but did not ignite. My wife thought she was baking, but I walked in the kitchen and smell a heavy gas smell. Bad igniter or not the gas control valve should never open unless there is ignition. Had we turned on the oven and left the house, there would have been a major problem.
After a little more checking I will probably replace the igniter and the gas control valve. The parts are not cheap but neither is a house.

SOURCE: Hello, I have a Frigidaire
Oven ignitors get weak with age. They may glow, but need to reach a certain amperage draw threshold in order for the gas safety valve to open. Replace the oven ignitor part number 316001810. (note: low voltage can also affect the amperage draw, and thus the ignition, but is not very common a problem.)

Usually I always find it's the ignightor. They are not to hard to replace. It's #5 on this looooong link
Or go to http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action?intcmp=xsite_Sears
enter your model number and it'll kind of show you how to get it apart. Good luck.

Gas oven does not work. Burners and broiler work. When oven kGnob is turned on, there is no glow at ignitor, nor any gas smell.

if ignitor is brt orange to white its hot enough to ignite gas, either the flame sensor is giving wrong signal to control board and not opening gas valve or signals the gas valve to shut off gas before ignition, also your flame sensor could be faulty or control board is bad

Ignitor needs to be working for the gas valve to open. If the ignitor does not reach the proper amp draw the gas valve will not open. There is a video at www.appliancehelponline.com/servicemanual.html this will walk you thru performing an amp draw test on the ignitor.
