Question about RCA Vintage Selectavision Vcr Early 80 Part Portable With Carmera

1 Answer

RCA Selecta vision vcr does not play or fwr/rvs. The motors engage then stop.

It's a 1986 model. The tape doe?s inject and eject. It just does not play, reverse, or forward. The motors seem to try to turn but when I looked inside the door cover nothing is moving. This recorder has been sitting idle for 12 yrs on the shelf. Being inactive has something to do with it. Maybe the grease in the motors has become more hardened? Any solutions?

I've had this RCA VCR model # VR652HF for about 10 to 12 years but one day it just stopped working as it was. All it does now is if you turn it on it says hello, then ejecting then turns off after 5- 10...

Good day
It sounds to me like that 1 or more of the drive belts has lost it's tension..(meaning it's time for new belts).
Another thing,..some models have a wee light bulb inside that is involved with the loading drawer..it senses that the tape has loaded properly, ..(continue towards "play tape".)
If it has burned out,..the machine cannot "see" that the tape is/is not in place,.."shuts down".

Best bet to send to a repair tech for service. Have a "belt&tire kit" plus the bulb replaced...& check over the loading drawer...(a trouble area also).

How does the vcr release the tape to be ejected?

When in play the tape is pulled out of the cassette & wrapped around a path that takes it across the heads using guide arms. When you press STOP/EJECT. the guide arms move back leaving the tape slack, at the same time a clutch device engages the take up spool & rotates to turn the spool in the cassette & wind the slack tape back into the cassette. When the arms are fully retracted a selector switch has moved into position to activate a motor which turns the mechanism to bring the cassette housing back up to the start position & relaeses the tape. If there is still tape catching the mechanism when you try to eject or some of the tape not fully back inside the cassette, this is most likely because the take up spool is not turning quickly enough to take up the slack tape.

Tape gets tangled in rca recorder

Your take up spool or the pinch roller on the deck mechanism is probably not turning & causing the tape to spill into the deck. The cause of this could either be the motor is not turning the pinch roller if a belt has snapped or the clutch mechanism is not engaging the take up spool. If you remove the top cover & take a look at the tape when it is in play or rewind mode you will see if it spills on the right hand side, look to see in the right spool in the cassette tape is turning. The remedy would be to remove the deck mechanism & check the gears or belts.

Tape keeps getting ejected

This unit requires the rubber parts to be replaced. The loading sequence is not completing properly. The VCR will eject the tape when the sequence fails as a safety measure to prevent damage to either the VCR or the tape.

Parts cost for this should not be more than $10.

Tape stuck in VCR, won't eject.

you posted 2 different problems here...
to answer this one ". The tape is stuck, won't eject and I'd like to get it out without damaging the VCR unit."...open unit, find motor that moves tape ejector and spin that motor by hand (power off)

the other problem, "the VCR will not insert a tape. It keeps rejecting it."...open unit and fully turn ejection motor until home position is reached...this is a home sensor switch not being activated.

VCR repeatedly tries to play and eject when tape deck is empty

the tape carriage is probably stuck, or something stuck inside blocking the tape sensor.
feed a tape in and see if it does it "with" the tape too

hope this helps

VCR eats tape when rewinding

A couple of possibilities: 1. Braking problems: When VCR goes from FFWD, REW, Play to stop, there are a pair of "brake pads" engaged to stop the reels, and prevent tape spillage out into the machine. These pads, often rubber like, are on levers which contact one side of each reel. If you take the cover off the VCR, and look down where the tape is loaded, you will like see these brake assemblies. If the rubber pad is missing, or lever pivot points gummied up, then this is your issue. 2. Take up reel isn't being engaged to take up the tape on tape eject. When a tape is loaded into the machine, tape is pulled from the cartridge and threaded into play ready position. When eject mode is engaged, the tape must be pulled back into the cartridge, or you will have tape hanging out the front end of the cartridge, and may get caught on the VCR internals, or at least be mangled by the cartridge door. The often issue here is likely the idler assembly pivot point is sticky. This idler pivots, moving from the take-up reel (right reel) to the supply reel reel (left one), depending on what mode is selected. FFWD & play to the right, left for REW. If this idler is gummed up at it's pivot point, movement will be sluggish at best, and might not be engaging the right reel quickly enough to pull tape in before tape eject. This idler is sitting right between the reels down where the tape sits. A little light oil on the pivot point may be enough to loosen it up. Otherwise it might need to be removed and the old grease removed, and a drop or two of light oil applied.

Tape plays for a while then stops...

play it till it stops when it ejects see if you can spin the wheel with your finger or if it feels like it is hung up try a different tape se if the problem goes away if it does not go away sounds like you need to get the heads cleaned or get a new VCR or better yet get a dvd player/recorder you can get one with a dvd/vcr and record your vhs on to DVDs

VCR tape stuck

Yes, it is a mechanical problem. While the tape is in fast forward the gears are engaged and locked to provide drive to the spindel on the right, however when you press the rewind button without hitting stop, the gears try to engage the spindel on the left without stoping and reversing (changing rotational positioning), this causes the motor to stop (this emulates a tape jam)the tope is left in and the unload mechanism never spools the tape back in because the motor has stopped. To free the tape, what I do is open up the unit and find the main motor check to see if the belt has slipped, if it has not try to manually spin the motor to engage the unload mechanism and eject the tape.
