I have never use with computer. have connected to VCR and small television, and copy direct from vcr to VRDVC20 and have had no problems. I do have the soft ware disc, as bought mine new and have used only to copy video to CD and if follow directions exact, the will finalize - no problems.
if your writer is showing in My Computer as a removable drive, you should bea able to right click on the drive icon and select Eject, but the programme you are using to burn must not be set to eject after finalising the disc in the preferences or settings.
I had similar problem (I have same model of Sony) on my dvr trying to record some movies, in my case it would start recording for a sec and then it would stop, problem in my case is that some of channels on satelite are scrambled and id doesn't allow even that they were stored on my dvr to get them on dvd drive, you can get descrambler on ebay but I just gave up cause it's too much hassle. Maybe you have similar problem cause I don't know who is your tv provider. Does your drive work on pc??? If so probably it is protection that is messing with your finallazing!
I hope you find this helpful!
By the way check my problem if you have any idea how to solve it I would very appreciate it!
