Romvoing the top of my Whirlpool Cooktop

Hello folks,
I have one of these whirlpool cooktops installed by the builder so I can't find the model number. The problem now the igniters are not working for all for five burners. By reading some of the resolutions here, I think the igniter unit is not working so I want to try to replace the igniter unit. However, I can't figure out how to remove the top. Does anybody have any idea?

I need to replace the now broken glass top on the Jenn air gas cooktop. I can't seem to get the glass top off. Is it glued down?

I had already taken off the knobs, caps off the burners, uncrewed the screws that hold the burner caps on, removed the burners and was surprised the top wouldn't budge. I can see some kind of black gasket or glue between the glass and the metal housing it rests on. Do the screws in the down draft have anything to do with it?

You mentioned the black bumper so the glass does not touch the counter. I ordered and have the replacement cooktop (whirlpool). Can I get the bumper material at the Depot or Lowes

Well usually you have to remove the knobs. thentake all of the caps off of the burners. sometimes there are scres that hold the burner caps on. make sure you turn the power off. Then after you have done this the glass should come right off. If not there may be screws under the cooktop. Do these first steps and let me know how it goes.

that black is usually justt a bumper so the glass does not touch the counter. please send me another picture of what it looks like now.

No the down draft has nothing to do with it. If you push the cooktop up from under the cabinet and push up to raise the coktop away from the counter sometimes you will see 1/4 " screws that hold the cooktop. But I am pretty sure your cooktop is just sitting there and that gasket that you see is what is giving you friction don't be afraid to pull up a little harder to release the cooktop.

Where can I get a wiring diagram for whirlpool speed top 2600 electric cooktop

Sometimes if you call the manufacturer of an appliance and have your model number ready, they will email you an diagram or mail it to you. I would not tell them what you are planning on doing, simply because of them not recommending doing this they may not give you what you need. Just tell them you need a diagram thats all. I've done this in the past and it was free, just depends on the company you are dealing with. Hope this helps, good luck.

The glass can be replaced. Go to any appliance parts website and look up the model number for your cooktop. They should have a parts directory and then search for your cooktop glass. I warn you though - the glass is almost as expensive as a new unit!!

first thing is the spark module(ignitor-- your referring to) is probably good and your electrodes are damaged. more then likely the problem. when you turn on one burner they should all spark( 1 module controls all 5 electrodes) so lets check that, first. when you turn on any/all burners do you at least hear clicking??. theres a switch under each **** that turns on the spark(erhaps one of them is bad. think of the electrodes as spark plugs on a car, they spark the same way, ck to see that they are clean(free from rust and carbon build up).using emory cloth or a woman's finger nail file try "sanding" down to a shiny surface the very tip of the electrode protruding out of the burner head.look for cracks in the porcelin housing around the electrodes this will lead to miss fires of the electrodes
