Electric ovens with thermostat knob that get hard to turn

If left it eventually causes the knob to break due to the excessive pressure.

Initially I purchased new knobs though these failed not long afterwards. For the first oven I glued the knob on though again this eventually failed due to the stiffness. I also broke the sintered brass shaft trying to enlarge the split in the shaft. I even purchased a new thermostat.

As a last ditched effort prior to replacing the thermostat I decided that it could be the shaft binding on the inner collar. If this was the case then simply lubricating the shaft to the collar should work. I removed the knob and using WD-40 with the extension tube sprayed a small amount between the shaft and the collar. This within one or two turns had completely corrected the stiffness. Use of CRC 2-26 would most likely also corrected the problem.

I have since this time corrected another 10 ovens with the same type of fault.

If this corrects you problem mail me as I am interested in how many types of ovens have the same problem.

I also started having this problem with a Tappan Gas Range. I'd like to try your lubricating method prior to purchasing a nearly $50 thermostat. Could you explain where to oil (shaft and collar?)? I'll let you know how i make out after I give it a try. Thx for the tip!

After removing the knob in my case there is a sintered brass shaft with a brass collar, both CRC and WD-40 come with an extension tube which can be connected to the nozel of the can. Simply apply a small amount between the shaft and the collar, where they meet. The presure from the can will be sufficient to force enough lubricant down the gap between the shaft and the collar to do the trick.

The solution is actualy contained in the description. Using CRC or WD-40 it is possible to lubricate it brass singered shaft which is where the actual binding occurs.

I have an early 70's Magic Chef series VI oven/stove. The stove works fine. The oven takes about 30 minutes to light. When oven knob is turned pilot works fine. There is no gas odor before the oven lights.

My model is a UA119A-2W and I cannot find a place to light the oven pilot. Nor can I find a copy of the owner's manual anywhere online. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Oven is not heating up properly

If oven does not heat properly, it will almost certainly be the oven thermostat. Read off the number on the sticker which is attached to the thermostat body. and give the spares shop the model number of the stove. Make sure plug or power is totally disconnected before working on the stove. Take one wire off at a time as you do the replacement. Please comment when completed.

I cant find the stove top pilot

Electric Ignition (sparking clicking noise when control knob is turned to "light" setting) do not have pilots. The spark ignites the gas.
