Question about Honeywell HWM-260 Humidifier
I have a Honeywell HWM 260 (I think thats what it is) which I have had for a few years. This is the first time I have used it this winter - probably 9-10 months since last used.
I filled it with water and pressed the Power on button but nothing has happened even after 10 mins. All I get is a little icon on the screen which looks like a container with a water drop inside it.....what am I missing or doing wrong?
I had two Honeywell HWM-260 Humidifiers with the same problem; the blinking "Refill Symbol" appearing for no reason, and a stubborn "Reset" button. Even when it would reset, the Refill Symbol would soon appear again, turning the unit off.
The problem with both units was the "Tank" safety switch; a small, lever-actuated micro-switch inside the "Power Unit." I wasn't able to find any replacements, but I did find that these little switches can be disassembled, so I took them apart and delicately cleaned the contacts. Now both humidifiers are working fine again.
I was initially thinking about just jumpering the switch terminals, since the tank safety switch seems rather superfluous anyway; the humidifier having a thermal shut-off that will turn it off if the tank runs dry (or isn't in place.) If I hadn't been able to clean the switch contacts, I probably would have settled for that.
