Problem for T-Mobile Sidekick II

Screen light wont turn on

My screen light on my sidekick wont turn on. The keypad light will turn on but not the screen. Sometimes it'll turn on by itself but only at random moments, and i'll never know how long it'll last. I can't buy a new sidekick at the moment because I'm still debating wether I want to renew my contract or not, and the prices are still a little much for me. Any "bright" ideas?

The problem may lie in the settings-->System-->Backlight-->Battery Power--> Make sure you check "Turn on backlight when a button is pressed...."
I believe this is a firmware bug.

Do the same for external power.
