Question about Microsoft Xbox 360 Console
The xbox was baught for xmas and wont operate any of the games I got my son due to family settings

Ok I had the same problem try this if this doesn't solve your problem call Microsoft.
First, Unplug everything including harddrive.
Next, Wait thirty seconds.
Then, Plug everything even harddrive.
Finally, Try it out see if it works. If it doesn't call Microsoft.

Mocrosoft only entended the warranty on the "ring of death" issue which was hardware related to overheating. They did not extend the warranty to any other issues. DVD/CD emulators and the games emulators are handled by different software.
You can try a factory reset of the console...
Before trying this, it's highly recommend that you remove all hard drive and memory cards. Once you've removed all hard drives and memory cards, navigate to the systems tab in the main menu and select the “Initial Setup” option. Once you select the option, it will ask you if want to run the initial setup that occurred when you first started your console. Say yes and it will do its thing. When it asks for a memory card/hard drive, just decline and it should be done. You should see the default dashboard screen as confirmation that it did, in fact, rerun initial setup.
Resetting to factory defaults / resetting parental locks
This might work only with older versions of Xbox 360 dashboard.
Press the following key combination
Left Trigger, Right Trigger, X, Y, Left Bumper, Right Bumper, Up, Left Bumper, Left Bumper, X
This should give you a dialogue asking whether or not you want to reset your system to factory default settings.
If none of this works contact Microsoft and see if the console is still under warranty. If not they will repair it for usually 99.00

Try Unplugging it for an hour or so (like how power outages ask you to set up your console) and ask him if he knows it...
or de attaching the HDD :) it's removable you know!
so much power for a little kid :(

Here's what you need to do:
Turn on your xbox, go to System Settings. From there go to Console Settings. A window should appear that asks you for your password. If you don't know your password, then make up something. It will tell you your password is incorrect, click Reset Password".
You'll need to type in: YrYa
If this fails, then you need to follow these steps to reset your factory settings.
Turn off your xbox. Take your hard drive out (the bulge on the side of your 360. It says HDD on it.) by pressing the gray button, and sliding the piece out. Turn on your xbox, go to System Settings - Console Settings - System Info.
Press these buttons IN ORDER:
LT RT X Y LB RB Y (using the left joystick) go right ONCE A
After all of this is completed, a window should appear asking you if you would like to reset your system settings, press yes!
After all of this is completed, you'll need to turn your xbox off, put the hard drive back in, and turn it back on.
I JUST had this problem, and this is what tech told me to do... and it worked.
