Question about Dell Inspiron 6400 Notebook
I need to replace a screen on my dell inspiron 6400 laptop. computer was dropped and have a "broken glass" look. I want to make sure that I purchase the correct screen, but cannot find the info on my computer to tell me that it is a "match"
You'll have to take the screen out of it's housing (involves taking the screen entirely off the laptop, and then removing the bezel around the glassy area by removing the screws under the little circles of plastic) and remove it from the hinges and then finally, you'll be able to see a sticker on the back that has the actual model number of the screen. be sure that it's an exact match to the exact model number. Even if the connector fits, the controller might be different and it won't work at all. Compare pictures, compare model numbers, try to see if they'll guarantee it working on your exact model of laptop (unlikely, but it's worth trying).
See this document by Dell about how to take the screen out. Be sure to follow the instructions carefully.
