Someone mention to me that its just a laptop drive inside the housing. You can go to fry's and ask. But they will sell you a kit for 20 bucks. The kit contains external power and usb strap cable and bought a seperate housing too. I accessed the ext drive, dragged and dropped all files. But i would check your warranty first, call tech support and double check. IF not what the hey go for it or spends lot of money to retrieve files. Try yahoo.com and under answers and type in simpletech. I dropped mine and recovered all.

How do i fix my external hard drive? it makes a clicking sound and there is a red blinking light that goes on it, it also sounds like a scratching sound.

HI, this is a sign of a dead hard drive. this cannot be fix unfortunately. The clicking is coming from the tracking assembly. there is a scanning arm that has a attached reader lens on it. the arm is connected to a tracking motor and gear assembly as well. this entire assembly has failed. the complete replacement of this unit is needed. there are no in house procedures for this type of hardware failuer.

I have Simpletech Signature Mini USB 500GB drive. All of a sudden, my computer (Windows XP) stopped detecting it. It does not have any external power supply. I tried to connect it to other computers still no success. I can hear the sound of hard disc spinning and red LED light also glows still I can not detect it.blue light lits just a second .

Sabrent 5in1 USB-DSC5 doesn't recognize 2.5" WD hard drive

I have had a different problem with this product. But, I have read many postings on its problems. It seems that for certain hard drives the jumper should be set for something other than 'master', either CS or no jumper at all. This seems to be true for only certain HD's.

Hope this helps.

Problem installing external hard drive

Run device manager and keep it running during the installation of drivers. It will take a bunch of drivers, but it will work and it will stop once it has all the drivers installed.

Installing a 2 port ATA-133 IDE adapter card to a desktop w/a hard drive & DVD

I don't think you can boot off of the ATA-133 so you will have to boot off of the IDE on the mobo and have the DVD drive jumpered cable select on the 2nd IDE. Boot that way to make sure the system boots. Shut down. Then instll the ATA-133 adapter with NO DRIVES on it and boot. The system should ask you for drivers for the new hardware. Intall the drivers. Shut down. Attach the new drives to the ATA-133. Reboot. You still might have to go into admin in windows and assign drive letters to the new drives. Anyway, if you are trying to boot off of a drive on the ATA-133 adapter, I don't think you can do it. I have mostly used Asus boards with Award Bios and there was no way to point the boot process to an add-on ATA Controller.
