Question about Sirius Starmate ST2 Satellite Radio Receiver

1 Answer

Sirius starmate ST2

The signal strength keeps going up and down. While sitting in a stationary position with a clear view of the sky. It goes from 3 bars to 2 back to 3 then drops to one. then the process repeats continuously. I had the same receiver for years never having this problem. Had to replace it with a new one. And now this.

I had already tried 3 different antennas. all produced the same resuly. But as of today, after bugging the Sirius enineering dept really hard, they have somehow fixed the problem. Its working normally today.

Try replacing the antenna with a new one. There could be something going on with the wiring in there.

Take a new antenna. Hook it up and set it on your dashboard with a clear line of site.

    Does it still happen?

Unfortunately some models of the Starmate Replay will not receive the latest updates. I have seen this with XTR8, which is essentially the same radio. If it is one of these outdated receivers, it will not receive the update, and there is not much you can do. You used to be able to let them sit for about 24 hours and it would eventually take. That does not appear to be the case anymore. This isn't the case with ALL of the ST2s if you wanted to hunt down a replacement. www.tss-radio.com can help

I have a sirius starmate st2 and it goes on but won't stay on and just turns itself off. Is there any way to repair this?

Your power jack needs to be replaced. You can buy a repair service on eBay. You'll need a new power jack if you'd like to repair it yourself, which you'd need to take from another radio.

More than likely the antenna connection has jogged loose somehow, and just needs to be soldered. The person who handles all of our repairs at TSS Radio does this often, and I'm sure could tell you specifics. His email is sales@tss-radio.com

I have the same problem. It happens even more with a generic universal power cord instead of the Sirius brand one.
