I'm tring to do a System Recovery on my ACER Aspire PC

In mid August my nephew took down my fire wall to look at porn. I have constant pop ups and my computer is slow in all aspects, it also freezes up. I did A back up thre days later but of course it was too late. I've been told by the people that I bought the computer and they told me to restart my computer and hold down F11, which has not worked. HELP

If your using Windows try the following:

1) Click the 'START' menu in the bottom left corner of the screen
2) Then hold the mouse pointer on 'All Programs' until a list comes up
3) Locate 'Accessories' and hold the mouse pointer on it
4) Locate 'System Tools' and move the mouse pointer on it and hold
5) Locate 'System Restore' and click on it
6) You will now be able to restore your computer to an earlier time when it wasn't acting up

The Windows System Restore will allow you to save all your files and at the same time eliminate any new programs that were installed after the date that you chose to restore to.

You could also follow the above list to find and do a 'disk cleanup' either before or after the restore.

Also make sure your computer is getting all the updates at update.microsoft.com and that your security settings for browsing the web are not to low but at least at default levels.

Since you can't use 'System Restore' to stop pop-ups and freeze try this:

    1) Open your web browser, preferably, by going to update.microsoft.com

    2) Look for the 'Tools' menu at the top of your browser (If 'Tools' isn't visible do the following:

    a) Place your mouse pointer in a blank area at the top of your browser

    b) Right Click your Mouse until you see a menu drop down

    c) Left Click on 'Menu Bar' and 'Tools will appear at the top of the browser

    3) Left Click on 'Tools'

    4) Left Click on 'Internet Options'

    5) In the 'Internet Options' Box find the Browsing History section and Left Click on 'Delete'

    6) In the Delete Browsing History Box Left Click on 'Delete All' This is important! Do it!

    7) Another Delete Browsing Box will appear Left Click on the Small Box that says 'Also delete files and settings stored by add-ons'

If you can't get to the 'Tools' menu before it freezes Let Me Know!

    Did you fix your computer?

    Does it still freeze up?

    Is it still slow?

    Did you save your files?

If any and/or all of the above is/are true I would greatly appreciate you letting me know which of the solutions fixed what or what you finally did!

Really Hoping To Hear From You!

You can start your computer in safe mode and do a virus scan, than do system restore in safe mode aswell. When you are in safe mode, windows only loads the basics to run the operating system and therefore viruses usually don't load in safe mode. To acess safe mode follow these instructions.

  1. Restart you computer and press F8 right away (press it a few times)
  2. A screen well come up with a bunch of options.
  3. select 'safe mode'
Once your in safe mode, follow these instructions.
  1. Click 'start'
  2. click 'all programs'
  3. click 'accesories'
  4. click 'system tools'
  5. click system restore'
Than follow the instructions on the screen. If you are still having the same problems when you restart your computer after the system restore, you have two more options. If you need me to tell you what they are than let me know and I well help you. But hopefully you don't need them.
Let me know how you made out, and good luck!

At this point you are better off reinstalling windows. Insert the windows cd that came with your computer and restart the computer and follow the instructions on the screen. When asked, do a FULL format, not a Quick one. You well loose all your data, but your computer well run linke new.

Well if the system that we are reffering to is a DELL system purchased after july 2004... then you need to keep the control key down & pressed before you restart the system & then the moment you see the blue dell logo... you need to tap the F11 key... that should take you to DELL PC restore... & then you can continue from there....
