These machines need to be seen by a technician who can disassemble the motors and replace the carbon brushes. You should have them serviced at the same time since it doesn't take that much longer to do everything.

Try turning it off and disconnect the foot pedal (depends on the model).
Worst, the power surge damaged the sewing machines small computer and it will require service.

Yes it does sound like a faulty foot control. The power cord is probably fine, you just need the controller. Ebay is a good source for parts.

I am not familiar with your machine, but some buttonhole attachments require a lever be lowered and inserted into a tab.
Review your manual to see if a step was overlooked.

You will need to go a bernina dealer to by those pins the part number is 325 355 031 and each pin cost around $4.00 each
