I have a nvidia GeForce FX5500 256M DDR. The onboard fan is making lots of noise. Is there a way to fix, repair, or replace the fan?

Peel back the sticker on the middle of the fan, and use a graphite based lubricant on the bushing.

Also there are smaller stick-on type fans that can be used. Normally for cooling chipsets.

The graphic card usually crashes due to over heating. Keep the gpu cool. you may use a pedestal fan as well.

I had a similar problem with my geforce 5500 until i discovered an ingenious way of resolving that issue. The reason your fan isn't working is that perhaps dust may have been collected between the hinges of the fan and the fan connector inhibiting the smooth rotation of the fan.It can only be salvaged by oiling the connection between the motherboard and the fan. This will ultimately result in a smooth surface for the fan to rotate. However, care must be taken when applying the oil, if possible apply it in droplets so that you don't end up damaging your card.

Right click MyComputer.Properties Open Device manger then go to hardware  tab and go down the list of devices till you find display adapters expand that dir tree and find the listing for the driver that is on your motherboart then select the disable Icon . remember that after you do this you will have to use that card next time you reboot . so you mighr want to install the driver for the card first before doing this . then change your connect cord to the card at reboot.you do not delete incase you need the onboard again  for some reason ( card failure, card driver not working ,just keep the old systen as a back up just disable it)

You can see if the fan is getting pluged up with dust. Yes I have seen lots of these do that. You can also take the fan off the card and clean it. or replace the fan..If you are having trouble already with gaming it is because the card is getting way to hot..

I want some information about Nvidia GeForce 9400 GT 1GB DDR 2

If you are using Dual Core the mother board you are using may have PCI Express Slot. So that you may install Graphics card. Only for particular lower end mother board doesn't have this feature. Any way tell me your motherboard make and model no. e.g., Intel DG31PR, 945GNT, DG41TY etc.,

assuming you have set your agp slot in the cmos settings to the primary graphics controller and already had the agp graphics slot driver installed for the motherboard, try using a driver from the nvidia web site if you are having trouble with the driver that came on the cd. Use the VGA onboard graphics if you have any or fit your old card and click on the link below for XP Drivers http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_93.71.html If you still have problems then you will have to try an ATI graphics card as it just may not be compatable with your make of motherboard
