Tcshoc,
Do you mean to view on a DVD, because the camera has a hard drive and the movies are stored on it, and the SD card can save still photos on it. You can watch and preview you movies on a TV by connecting the camera to a monitor or a PC to edit the movies after you have loaded the software that came with the camera. Does that help? Remember as long as you can see the movies on the camera they are safe. With a 30 GB you can take a lot of footage. There is a switch position for playback or preview or for filming just check to see. You should be able to look at the menu to see how much time you have left for "taping" which is really storing. Enjoy your vacation, and edit you movies when you get home.

1. I think there are too many bad sectors in your 'HDD'. The reason you did not use for a long days or electricity problem (horrible breakable power supply). You will always use UPS. To repair the HDD, you should need a bootable DM .I don't know, which hdd you are using. So you will use ontrack bootable dm follow the step >

Download from bellow link, for ontrack dm

http://www.downtr.net/297918-ontrack-easyrecovery-professional-621.html

Mazor problem is most of the user, burn ISO file in data mode and the result, it could not run in boot time.
Burn the iso file, under image burning option from any nero .

2. Restart >press F2/F10/Del( for entry in the BIOS)>Set the cd/dvd as 1st priority.

(It will start aotomatically from cd )If create any problem footing the cd , follow the bellow link for set boot piority.

http://www.windowsreinstall.com/articles/bios/

3. Ensure that your Bootable dm cd, in cd rom.
4. Boot from cd will be appear then hit Enter as quick as possible.

5. All it will be possible, if you know dos other wise it will be difficult.
6. DON'T PANIC,I hope, you will can do it

7. Type that letter where the dm software in the cd.
8. Type in dos mode. e.g. if your two partition c: d : so your dm will be in e:.
9.type e: and enter , for observation type= dir and enter >now you can see is there ontrack or dm (directy or folder) have or not try it once after one
10 If have ontrack in that folder type=cd (space) ontrack>cd (space) dm hit enter .
11 If all ok type dm and enter
12.Enter
13.Advance installation
14.Maintence

I lost the cd to have the program to my computer . what can i do to still pass the videos to my computer with out the cd or program?

Assuming you are using Windows, the camera will appear in "My Computer" as a disc drive. The type of drive is dependant in what the power switch is set to {HDD,DVD,SD}. Double click on the corresponing drive letter to access the video(s) stored on the camcorder.

ps. Make sure you have the power switch set to the location of your video files before plugging the camcorder into your computer. As you will not be able to change this setting once the camcorder is plugged in.

Have you considered checking your DVD writer? Also, you might already have a faulty hard disk drive.
You can try any of the following:
1. Double check to see if your Windows 7 installation disk is dirty (clean it using a lint free cloth) or has many scratches. (Your DVD reader/writer would really have a hard time reading scratched disks.)
2. Borrow another DVD-ROM from a friend and use it to install Windows 7 on your computer's C drive.
3. Check to see if ALL cables are properly connected. i.e. SATA, power cables, etc.
4. You could also try to make your 500 GB HDD as a slave drive so that you can backup your files to another media if it works. (Backup to another external hard disk drive, burn it to DVD's, etc.)
5. LISTEN carefully if your hard drive makes unusual noises like unusual clicking, bumping, and/or scratching sound inside your hard disk drive. If it does and as a last resort, replace your hard disk drive.

You unplugged it when data was still written on it so it was corrupted. Some files are still recoverable so use

External HDD not recognized after a time of inactivity

you are guessing right... this is caused due to system going in standby suspend mode which powers down the HDD ... and when the system comes back from suspend mode... the win vista thinks no external HDD is attached to the system ... thereby removing it from the devices list.

right click desktop select properties and select screensaver tab and then power options. select turn off the hard disks and select never. this is for winxp .. but it will be similar to this procedure in vista.

Lacie hard drive won't turn on

My 1TB Lacie suddenly won't power up (no sound, no blue light). It turned out that I might have worn out the on/off switch over the seldom-use 4 years of usage. I push and flip the switch multiple times, and the Lacie came back to live and mount normally. I will just leave it at the On setting and simply pull the power cord when i want to switch it off.

Obviously, Lacie failed to do QA on the on/off switch because my 4 years usage did not totalled to more than 10 on/off per month.
