Hello :) I bought an ipaq3600 off ebay, when it is in the cradle charging it doesnt ever seem to charge fully, and as soon as I take it out of the cradle ( even after 12 hours of charging) it will not do ANYTHING....the only time I can get a screen up is when it is in its cradle atached to the PC and power source. It also wont hold information for long even when in its cradle....I enterred some contacts and basic owner information and its gone since I rebooted my PC which it is conected to via the cradle. I was hoping you could give your opinion as to wether I should buy a new battery, of if this sounds more serious and involved, im recently unemplyed and I just cant afford to poor money into this thing if its unlikely to solve the problem. Im so grateful for any assistance and ideas you can offer
In general, Ebay Ipaq's come without a battery (well, not one worth anything). The problem is that it really could be two different issues: either the charging circuit or the battery. The only way to test this is if you know someone else that owns this model and see if the battery works in theirs, or purchase a new battery. But the new battery might not fix it, so if it's cheap, I'd try it but if you're tight on cash then it might not be worth the chance. I'd give a new battery a 70% chance of working.

it is possible that if you changed the battery you forfot to move the slide button next to the battery to the correct position. It often happens to me :-) Please check it, its on the right top corner of the battery, you should not see the red marking, if there is the correct position.
The Samsung SCH-i730 doesn't have a USB port, but it has a different port that underneath the phone itself. You need to use an adapter so that you could connect it to the computer. Look for the adapter SCH-i730 Lil Sync USB connector.
There could be a possibility that the battery is not working correctly. To isolate this, try to use another battery to see if you will get the same problem.
NOTE: To take care of the battery, never charge it if it's not running out of charge. Never unplug the charging battery if it's not fully charged.
As I understand it, the basic cradle that comes with the Compaq Ipaq 3870 does not charge. If I were you, I'd either seek out a charging cradle or google the instructions for modifying your cradle to charge. Good luck...
If you purchase a new battery, they usually come with directions and special tools to change the battery. I had the same issue with 2 of mine when I got them at a used electronics store. IF it is the battery that is not working, then replacing it is easy, and you can get a replacement at your local Battery-Plus store.
In my case, one was fixed by a new battery, the other was not, and I actually had to press pretty hard in the cradle to get the second one to work. It never worked out of the cradle, so I gave that one to a neighbor kid to tear apart and see if he could get it working. (I got them for $15, so no big loss.)
The problem you have is related to the battery's nominal tension value. For the pda to light up the amber led dispaying that the battery is charging the tension value at the battery pins must be above 3.27Volts. If this is under that value the PDA's charging circuitry woun't power up and therefore the amber led woun't turn on.
The battery you have bought is probably defective or not compatible with your pda model.
If you are shure this is not the case or if the battery works with other pda's (if you have the possibility to check that), try a master reset at first and if this doesn't help try a firmware (ROM) update, you may find the ROM files on HP's site. For more informations please reply back.
My experience was similar to yours. The LED turned green after about only 2 hours. Because I didn't want to stay up until midnight to start playing with my Axim, I took it out of the cradle after the 2 hours and everything was fine. Besides, having downloaded and read the user's guide 2 days before receving my Axim, I knew that a green LED meant it was ready to go. 3 days later, everything is still fine and seems normal. A year ago, I received a Palm with similar initial charging requirements, and it also didn't take as long as the directions said it would.
