Question about Intel D425KT Desktop Motherboard Intel Chipset BOXD425KT (1740273000)

1 Answer

Unable to install Win 2000 on D425 KT board with 500 gb hdd

When booting from a installation disk, it starts installation and gets to a point till "Starting windows 2000" message (on the initial blue screen with the status running in the last line". It just stays there and does not move. This is well before the drive is partitioned or formatted.

Hey,, sorry but windows 2000 does not support any hard rives larger then 137 GB.. meaning the most you can use is 120GB.. even if you partition it before trying to install it, it wont work.

Hey, thanks for the help. But if I remember right, I am replacing a faulty hdd. The earlier one was a 200 gb seagate, new one is a 500 gb WD. I had used the same installation earlier too. Are you sure creating a partition on a seperate PC will not help ? I am little confused because of my previous 200 GB successful install

  • Rishi Roshan Ali Dec 30, 2012

no.. create a partition on a seperate pc.. and install it on that.. Sorry i mistyped that.. You cant create the paration on the 500 GB cause windows 2000 doesnt support it it wont work.. you have to use another pc.. and create them in FAT 32 or preferrable NTFS... here this might help youhttp://techpatterns.com/forums/about260....

  • Rishi Roshan Ali Dec 30, 2012

you cant create the a partition on the 500 GB using the windows 2000 instillation cause it doesnt support it, it needs to be done exteranlly and manually.. ps make sure the rest of the disk remains as un partitioned. and make the mods in the link i posted after to get it to work

  • Sabu Paul Dec 30, 2012

Looks like it might work. Let me try it

  • Rishi Roshan Ali Dec 30, 2012

There are a few things i took for granted I will just mention them here For everyone else reading this.. 1.) older drives lets say like western digital you will see number like WD200 this does not mean 200 Gb, it means 20GB.. 2.) windows 2000 does not support any drive partitions over 137 GB.. the instillation itself does not carry drivers for newer harddrives. If you try to install windows on it it will get to the point saying starting windows and it sticks there, thats becuse windows cannot read from the disk using the inbuilt drivers. To get around this when you start the windows instillation procedure be sure and press F6 when it prompts you to do so and insert the floppy disk that came ith the mainboard containing the SATA or RAID drivers, It can also be found on the CD but you will need to copy it to a floppy disc as windows 2000 only ready from floppy disk. The folder with the drivers can be found under drivers, sata / raid windows 2000, floppy, or you can download it from the manufactures web site.... 3.) thye partition of 120 GB needs to be created on a seperate PC and the rest left un-partitioned. after instillation is complete make the registery mods in the link above and create a partition from the unpartitioned space...4.) remember to install your drivers from the cd before you do this. Yes the floppy drivers for the 3rd Party disc drivers windows instillation require is a waterdown version of the full driver.

HP Pavilion TX1000 Series with new 500 gb hdd unable to install windows 7, after partitions on hdd, it disappears, and unable to install os

not sure what "after partitions" means. (ah, at that point in install)
dual booting?
HP disk set
or Microsoft set.?
tell what attempting and where stuck exactly.
what screen , and what error exactly.?
new 500, new in box, new to your or new for an APPLE.
if new, really new it has mfg codes on box for any special pre-formatting...

i bet the new disk is pre-formatted. (or really not new)
seen many new disk in box with antistatic bag breached.
bingo , not really new.
what disk ,? Seagate (best)

windoz hates that, (setup.exe running)
erase the new 500
3 ways.(lots really)
1: put new 500 , as a 2nd HDD in PC #2,
2: with disk-manger delete all partitions on it. its now ready.

A: using boot windows, PE disk, do same in this PC.
B: using boot cd, boot and go to repair mode,(first screen)
then using CMD prompt mode, use DIskpart, to do that.
C: using any bood Linux, live CD same PC, run pparted and erase the partitions.
I can go more, but stop.

All windows install disk, cept w10?>
will erase any windows partitions (if you force it)
but will not do it if the format is ALIEN to MS.
Alien means not fat 16 , Fat 32/ NTFS,
Alien means Apple or other 100s of systems alien to MX.
on windows 10, it will balk with any data there what so ever.
protecting the NOOBs. cure is above.

Will not run xp pro i'm stuck in 2000 mode mother board is ak77 pro 133 vt8233 will not run xp pro i've been told im pretty much sol. Is this true?

If you have a valid Win XP Pro CD and want to install the operating system you'll need to format your hard disk drive. If you have allot of data on you're hard disk drive, (In Win 2000) Suggest you create a second partition within the free space of you're hdd and install windows XP Pro. Boot you're system with the XP CD. Pay close attention to the display screens. Follow the instructions for creating a second partition.
Format the new partition. (Quick). Install windows XP on the new partition. Once completed you can copy your personal data to win XP.
If you choose to keep the win 2000 partition and you do not wish to have a dual boot system than remove/delete the root files from the 2000 partition. These files; Autoexec.bat and Boot.ini. You're new XP Boot.ini should read like this;
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect /usepmtimer
Once you're satisfied an no longer need win 2000 use windows diskmgmt.msc from the run command to delete the win 2000 partition.
Win 2000 uses a FAT16 where Win XP uses the FAT NTFS.

Cheers!
Mike

your HDD may be bad. I have had a number of HDD that appear fine in the BIOS but won't format either via the install disk or separately via a Linux boot disc.(You can somtimes hear them clicking on and off [seeking])

If you are mad keen on the drive, then D/L 'Hirens Boot Disc' and boot into the DOS mode (it also has a Mini XP mode).and use the HDD format utlity 'killdisk'. This will remove anything on the drive, format it and set it up ready for a fresh install.

If Hirens Boot Disk can't see the SATA drive then its stuffed.. for sure..

Disk boot failure

Hi,

Technically you can copy all the data from one to another hdd but not the operating system

You have to install your operating system (windows, linux or MAC) on your new 500gig hdd and then copy your data from 60gig hdd.
