You must surely have sorted this one out by now Doris! However, if you haven't, how to change print cartridges on a
DX7450 is very clearly explained in the user handbook (on the CD that
came with your printer). Insert the CD and select "Custom Install" then "Users Guide". Once its installed, double click the new Epson Icon on your screen and selct "Printing" then "Replacing Ink Cartridges". If you don't have a CD, download the User's Guide from the Epson website at http://www.epson.com - just choose your locale, then select Get Drivers and Support - Printers.

SOURCE: Epson DX7450 won t charge ink
In some cases the chip on the cartridge will work for multiple models but this doesn't always mean that ALL cartridge colours will be the same.
It sounds like you either have the wrong magenta type or you have a cartridge which is incompatible. I'd look for a supplier that can confirm 100% that they have the correct chip for your printer and try that.
I should warn you that you may find that fixing the magenta provides you with a warning on a different cartridge as sometimes the chips interact with the printer in rather odd ways that give false positives or error indicators.. So be prepared.
Hope this helps somewhat.

Whilst I don't have the service manual available I do have a suggestion regarding a way to keep the printer from flooding with waste ink.
You've probably already noticed a number of modifications for Epson printers like the R300, etc... where the waste ink tube is redirected to an external tank. This is something that the DX7450 can also be modified to do and the key thing is that aside from a small amount of waste ink dumping to the left side of the printer you'd be stopping any further ink from being dumped to the pads.
This would allow the existing waste ink to evaporate the water content slowly over time and leave the pads relatively untouched while you could simply empty the external tank whenever it was full. Bottom line, this approach would allow you to forget about the pads without have to change them.
Ok, that aside I have a question for you in that I am trying to locate a utility suitable for resetting the waste ink counter and so far haven't found anything... Do you have a utility that will enable this? If so could you let me know if you're in a position to share as I really could use it.
Hope that helps and hope you'll be able to respond shortly.

This is a common problem and is caused by faulty or missing chips onthe compatible cartridges. You will need to get them replaced otherwise the printer will not operate. Contact the vendor where you bought them from and ask for repalcements or a refund.
