I need a DC adaptor where do i find one

Depends on where you live.
Look at the back of your drive or on the old adaptor for the requirements (5v/1a or 12v/.... or something else) or take these parts to the next electronics shop or computer repair shop. A new one should only cost a few bucks.

Macally G-S350SUA power supply

  • I have the same Macally hard drive enclosure and I misplaced my power supply also. I used an old IBM Thinkpad power supply. These are common and cheap. The Macally enclosure states 12V DC input, and the Thinkpad PS is rated at 16V but it works fine. The plug and polarity are correct.

Will not power on

i hope you didn't dropped it cause dropping it may cause to malfunction or no function at all
here are some steps you might follow if its not broken it may work
1. first of all check the adapter if it says Input:100V-240V~50/60Hz Output:5V/2A; 12V/2A ,
if you have the original adapter check for the values
2. if it doesn't powers your external drive then check for a adapter of same inputs and outputs
see if it works with another adapter,go to a shop and ask someone that you want to check ,
if it works then you have to buy it.cause our adapter is out.

if it doesn't your final procedure should be this

1. install driver from here
2. install it .and see if it detects the drive works.

now if it doesn't help ignore this post .cause i don't want to reffer you to a service center, cause i consider this as a help to you.

Best Regards
do tell me that how did you resolved the matter ....!??

Switching power supply ??

For your purposes there is no difference: all you need to know is the voltage your WD drive requires, and the maximum current load it needs. Any regulated DC power supply with that voltage and *at least* that current will do.

Not-so-technically, a "regular" power supply will supply power at the correct voltage by "discarding" a portion of the extra potential. A "switching" power supply will shunt and switch the extra power away, so that instead of being "lost", it is "not requested" from the uplink grid. In theory a perfect switching supply will have no losses, and therefore dissipate no waste heat (in practice there will be some losses, and cooling will be needed). The important thing, though, is that a switching power supply can deliver twice as much power as a "normal" supply, and the same power in a half as big package.

I need to know what the power input is on this unit. I have one, and a pile of power supplies, but I don't know which one this unit takes!

Well, I think that above the power socket you will read the power rating, at least the voltage. If I see correctly on some picture I found, it says 12V.
Another very important thing is the polarity, which also seems to be shown on a picture near the power socket - whether it's plus on the inside and minus on the outside of the plug, or the other way round.

Once you establish these two facts, you have to look for a power supply that has a proper voltage, a polarity symbol as on the HDD box, and an output current anywhere between 1A to 2.5A

My guess would be 12V, positive inside, and 1.5A output - but that's just a slightly educated guess.
