Liftmaster Garage Door Open Gears destruction

The motor shaft auger gear keeps eating the drive shaft nylon gear. I have replaced the shaft/gear assembly and motor shaft bearings in addition to adjusting both the lift and force settings. Why does it keep doing this?

My motor just hums, but doesn't turn gears.

Remove the cover from the motor unit and check the drive gear. It is a white nylon gear and is just in front of the motor. It will be obvious if it is bad. Is your door stuck in the open position?

I can hear the motor "working" but the chain is not moving and so door will not open?

Remove the cover from the motor unit and check the drive gear. It is a white nylon gear just in front of the motor and I'm sure you will find it is stripped. The part number is 41A2817 and is available at any door opener service company. It comes with instructions.

Liftmaster 1/2 HP Garage Door opener won't open or close. Has been working fine until I pulled out this morning. The door will move freely if I disengage from opener. Went up ladder to see chain not...

The shaft on these garage door motors are not direct drive systems. You'll have to open up the box to see what the actual problem is. I have had stuff like this happen where a gear just slipped out of place.

Here is a link for a parts supplier. I don't know your model but it looks like most of the Liftmaster worm screw gears and drive gears are plastic so it's possible that one of them has cracked.

Many of these openers use nylon gears and can easily be stripped. Remove the cover to the main motor drive and see if the gears are stripped.

Craftsman Garage Door Opener Won't Open

When mine did this, it was because the nylon gears that drive the chain had stripped. My wife had to live without the opener for a week or more, but I was able to find a new gear kit online and replace the damaged gears. It wasn't difficult.
The other option is to buy a new opener.
